Forgot to add! From the Power Queen Website: 【Low-Temperature Cut Off】Upgraded BMS with a low-temperature sensor will automatically cut off the charging process when the battery is connected to a charging source and the cell’s temperature is lower than 32℉. Once the battery cell temperature is higher than 32℉, the BMS will resume the charging process and start charging the batteries. Keeping the battery safe from being damaged even in cold weather.

I just gave my 10' jon boat a rehaul this winter. Built a casting deck in the rear, and needed a new battery, so I also went with a lithium. The weight difference is insane. I paid $130 for mine on ebay. Looking forward to see how it does with my 30lb Kota

I just bought my G3 1756 and bought a battery from Rural King for the crank battery and bought a lithium battery, and new tray, and also put the same NOCO charger in my boat. It seems awesome so far. Glad you're back to making videos.

Great video! Something to touch on that applies to those of us who fish in cold temperatures ... depending on the chemistry, you can't discharge a lithium when it is below 0 degrees F and you can't charge it below about 32 degrees. The exact cutoffs are chemistry-specific, but the 0/32 limiters are good approximations. I fish open water in Minnesota (certain parts of the Mississippi River are open all year) and store my boat in a heated garage. The low-temp cutoff feature on the battery should prevent charging less than 32 & discharging at less than 0. Some batteries will also have a heater built in to aid in keeping the battery in safe operating temperature zones.

The battery you're reviewing in this video uses a lithium iron-phosphate chemistry. The batteries that can potentially suffer from thermal runaway are lithium-NMC, or nickel, manganese, cobalt. Those really aren't suitable for use on a boat, in my opinion, but that IS the type of lithium battery in your smart phone, most likely. The low-temp label on the battery means it has a sensor inside the battery that will not allow any charge to the battery if the cells are at or below freezing. "LTCP = low-temp charging protection. It's critical that you don't charge lithium iron-phosphate cells when they are frozen as it will permanently damage them. That battery also has extra padding inside so it can handle the vibration typical on a fishing boat. Most folks will find they can fish two full days on a single charge from that battery. The only downside is that battery really isn't suitable for use as a cranking battery...it's awesome for your trolling motor and/or electronics, but not cranking over your big motor.

I thought the Power Queen battery uses a LiFePo4 Charger ? I noticed your charger said Lithium on it . I bought a Power Queen Premium 2 Battery and the charger I bought has a setting for Lithium and a setting for LiFePo4. This has me confused as I am new to these battery types. I have been using the LiFePo4 setting on my charger to charge my Power Queen Battery.

There are several types of lithium batteries. LiFeP04 is lithium iron phosphate.

Good question. In the NOCO 5X2 description it lists Lithium (Lifepo4) as a battery type it is suitable for. ‘NOCO Genius GEN5X2, 2-Bank, 10A (5A/Bank) Smart Marine Battery Charger, 12V Waterproof Onboard Boat Charger, Battery Maintainer and Desulfator for AGM, Lithium (LiFePO4) and Deep-Cycle Batteries’ Not that I would overly trust listings on Amazon. A quick search about it made me feel okay with using the NOCO 5X for the Lifepo4. But I’m assuming the safest bet would be to use Power Queens charger if there’s any doubts.
