Hey guys, Would appreciate some suggestions on the upgrade I need to make. I have the following CPU - Core i5 11600K 3.9 GHz (Upgraded in 2021) GPU - NVidea GTX 980 with 4 GB VRAM (Got in 2014) RAM - 16 GB (Upgraded in 2021) PSU - 650 Watt (Got in 2014) I'm getting a 27 inch 1440p monitor and want to work on game dev and play modern games in 1440p resolution. the major headache is the GPU. What would you guys recommend? - 16 GB VRAM is important for future proofing given there are so many UE5 games coming out. - Memory Bus considerations? - I have always used NVIDEA since 2007. I dont know anything bout AMD The options are \- RTX 4060 Ti 16 GB \- RTX 4080 \- RTX 4080 Super \- RTX 4070 Ti Super What would you recommend? Do you think the Core i5 11600K CPU and a modern GPU will face bottlenecks? Thanks in advance!

Monitor 1440p 60-75Hz, 120hz, 144Hz, 165Hz, more?. What games are you interested in?. You didn't mention the MoBo, the Case or your Ventilation/Cooling. Regardless of which GPU you end up buying, if your PSU already has 10 years under its belt, you'd be better off buying a new one that's more powerful and more future-proof. To play at 1440p (without knowing the Hz in your case), I don't think you need the RTX 4070ti Super, RTX 4080 or RTX 4080 Super, although I suppose that the GPU with the best Price-Performance ratio (among those) would be the RTX 4070ti Super (since you get 16GB vram compared to the 12Gb of the RTX 4070, RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4070). In any case, it will depend on your final budget. An i5 11600K has similar performance to an AMD Ryzen 5 5600X, a little less than an Intel i5 12400/12400F. Personally, it is not imperative for me to have the best possible performance in Raytracing, nor am I obsessed with Nvidia's DLSS, nor do I need to Stream my Gameplays and other things, so thinking about spending as little as possible, I would be more interested in buying at less an AMD RX 7800XT-16GB (great Price-Performance), similar to an RTX 3080 and more than an RTX 4070. At Intel I would buy the RTX 4070 Super. Thinking about the future, try to make your GPU have 16GB Vram and reach 32GB of RAM in Dualchannel mode (2x16GB or 4x8GB), otherwise it is possible because you don't like AMD and/or the Nvidia models with 16GB are very expensive for your budget , you will have to settle for some Nvidia with 12GB Vram, like that RTX 4070 Super for example. Decide if you can pay for the RTX 4070ti Super (16GB vram), if not then you would have the AMD RX 7900XT (20GB vram) as an alternative.

@@juanmassiosare9850 Thank you for your detailed message. The Monitor, I plan to get is a Asus TUF Gaming 165 hz VG27AQ Gaming Monitor at 1440p resolution. The Motherboard is ASUS TUF GAMING B560M-PLUS WIFI with PCIe 4.0, two M.2 slots My Cabinet is a very large Corsair with tons of room. Real Estate is not an issue. I dont have any special CPU coolers installed. The games I play are Elder Scrolls, Modding, Unreal Engine 5 survival games, Starfield etc. I agree, I dont care bout Raytracing, DLSS etc. But I do a lot of Streaming and prefer to remain with NVidia. I also have game specific settings in NVidia control panel. - So you recommend a RAM upgrade to 32 GB. Will get it done. - RTX 4070 Ti Super is interesting and I will consider it. Thank you. What do you think bout the 16 GB 4060? Is it inferior? It has 16 GB and a great price point. - Do you see a some bottleneck between the CPU and GPU - i5 11600K and RTX 4070 Ti Super? If yes, which CPU would you recommend? - Do you recommend a CPU cooler? - I will definitely upgrade the PSU. How many Watts do you suggest? You help is much appreciated.

@@juanmassiosare9850 Thank you for answering my query. Here are the motherboard specs and Tower details. I get your point as the GeForce RTX 4070 Super with 12 GB VRAM would be a compromise. But going in for a 16 GB VRAM card is also an option. My main worry is CPU and GPU bottleneck. So I will upgrade the CPU as well. Which do u recommend? Do you think we need to install a cooler? Thanks once again!

From my experience speed of ram doesn’t matter that much unless maybe you’re at 1080p high refresh rate. But the capacity matters more. Sometimes you don’t realize you needed more ram until you upgraded. Windows will compress & do what it’s gotta do to keep things running so then upgrading more capacity would be well worth it. It’s 2024, everyone should at least have 32gb.

Exactly the same for me, 2 x 32 GB of DDR5 6800 CL32, will only work at 6000 CL30. I was excepting this but at least I can keep the kit for when new cpus and motherboards get released

Useful information. Will be helpful later this year/early next year if I decide to replace my rig. I'm already on the fence, but I just might h old off a little longer, if it means much better ram. But I doubt that'll stop me.

I'm in a similar boat where I picked up some Gskill RAM DDR5, Trident Neo, Expo, 6400, cl32. I can boot it. I can run it. But it will BSOD occasionally on certain workloads. Usually if it some longer workload, like if I'm rendering a video on handbrake for over 10 minutes, I might crash. I'll eventually BSOD. If I'm doing any kind of tensorflow for over 10 minutes constant, it might BSOD. Not only might it crash, but during deep learning cycles, my interations might go corrupt if I try to deep learn and I get a "nan" ruining the entire project. Though I do not crash while playing games for hours. I wasn't sure what was causing my computer to crash I thought maybe the undervolt on my 7800x3D, which its currently at -30 all core PBO. But it would crash if I had NO PBO setting. So I went to the ram and capped it at 6000 speed. It stopped crashing. I ran a deep learning project overnight for 8 hours and it didn't crash. I haven't changed the original expo TIMINGS, its still at CL32-39-39-102 just the speed is capped at 6000 instead of 6400.

A lot of ram achieves low cas latency by loosening the crap out of their sub timings so they can trick you into thinking the ram is better than it is.

Since I was getting BSOD with my 7800X3D on long tensorflow projects *over 10-30 minutes* at the expo settings of 6400 CL32-39-39-102 . And I got it to stop when I capped it at 6000 speed. Can I use the Mobo's preset memory timings that are tighter? I noticed on my MSI board there are preset RAM timings of CL30-36-36-96. If I can just select that preset and it could try running it? Right now I assume its still at the expo setting of CL32-39-39-102 just capped at 6000. I only notice that 6000 speed RAM has tighter timings. I've been wondering this for a while now.
@Snafu2346
@Snafu2346 Жыл бұрын
I know my stock expo settings has all these timings at 1.4v also. I'm not sure if I can lower the voltage as well. I see a lot of 6000 cl 30 expo kits of 6000 usually around 1.35. I' haven't tried much when it comes to ram settings. I've always just done xmp/expo and that was it. I don't know if its just going to the ram voltage settings and just capping it at 1.35 and that's it. Or just keep at it the 1.4v for now .
@DJHarmonics
@DJHarmonics Жыл бұрын
The lower the ram speed, the tighter the timings can be, which can be calaculated easily. However, It's impossible to say what and will not be stable without testing. There are a lot of variables that come into play for how fast you can push your ram, such as your motherboard capabilities, for example.

Well you should have also said the 13900k will do the 6400 easily. Its the carbon board holding it back you shoukd make that clear to others that dont know in z690 era you needed 2 dim boards for what was high speed back then 6400/6800. Im sure a unify x will do it no problem and with a 13900k it will probably do 7600 no problem

Unless you're going from 4GB to 64GB, you don't typically buy RAM for a "wow" upgrade.
