The issue I would have with the 14900K is the thermals, that thing sucks down so much power the only one I've seen who managed to get full performance out of it without any thermal throttling was Der8auer and he did it by delidding and using liquid metal and a custom direct die waterblock. It really doesn't matter much how fast a CPU is on paper if most liquid coolers get heat overload trying to run the thing, reminds me of the FX-9590 from back in the day.

Got the non x 7900 at launch with a 7900xtx. Has been an amazing machine so far and im hoping it will keep me at 1440p ultra for more years to come

The 4790K was great in its time, LOL. I built my 6800XT machine in Fall '22 with a 13700K knowing that GPU would be relegated to another machine and replaced by a 7900XTX (not yet available) when prices fell under $900. That's what I did. I did not buy a 13900K because this is for gaming, I don't really need the extra cores, and in three or four years when I need a new machine neither the 13700K nor the 13900K will be worth much. Certainly I won't recoup the difference I would have paid, nor would would I have enjoyed noticeably better game play. If I were building it today, I'd choose the 14700K over the 14900K for the same reasons.

I have the 13700k with the NHd15 and it works great. I could see the 13900k / 14900k running a little hotter but it shouldn't thermal throttle.

You can always undervolt the 14900k if you're worried about heat and wattage

Let's see have the option personally to upgrade to a 14700K/14900K (a bit more but would last longer) but it's okay currently with a 12900KF. 7800X3D though that will have more upgrades coming for it's future.

It's interesting to me that people are choosing a GPU first and then deciding on the CPU to support that. Back not too long ago that was a question no one would ever think of. CPU was the main choice, first. I understand why it's just one of those historical development that has me a little "Wait, what?"

I recently bought a 7900 GRE at short notice since my Titan X (yes, overdue an upgrade but I had other priorities really) blew itself up. Absolutely huge upgrade even though the Titan was top of the top versus the GRE being lower end of upper tier. Only thing is my 3900X does feel inadequate now (for games at least) so not sure if it’s worth the upgrade.

Good thing I made my comment of my 12100f upgrade, I was still in the return window with Amazon so I returned it and got the 12600kf the second you said so, the games themselves have no difference for emulators since the games are locked at 60fps or they will break but everything else in windows has been faster.

At 4k, most anything 11900k / 5800x will do fine. 4790k lasted me till 2020 due to this.

I'm building a PC for my son. I bought a 7900 XTX magnetic air GPU. I'm looking for a CPU that will allow him to play games and stream n video his game play. I already have the 7950 x, should I exchange it for the new 9800 x3d if it is possible. If not is the 7950x a bad choice to pair with the 7900 XTX for gaming, streaming and such? If not will it run smoothly without a bottleneck?

Best CPU + motherboard combo to pair with a 3070? My i7 11700 (non-K) IS BOTTLENECKING the 3070 HARD in Counter-Strike 2. I could easily be achieving higher and more consistent fps with a better CPU.

Even if you didn't upgrade either the 7800x3d beats it now and later in gaming if that is the focus. And is cheaper overall both in power and cooling. If you need to edit videos or something else I guess you could make an argument.. or repurpose DDR4 ram.

i would wait till the next gen and at 4k...IT DOESNT MATTER . i only use 20% of 5900x with an Asus 4090 oc at 4k so dont bother if you max out settings

This must be how lawyers feel when non-lawyers give legal advice. If you're only using 20% of your 5900X, that's your game selection at work. Play Spiderman Remastered, it'll be 50% or higher. Your personal experience is not wisdom, it's an anecdote.

i do apologies as you seem to be the authority on all things relative. Im using 19% of my CPU and 99% of the 4090 at 4k in AW2, Elden ring uncapped and RE4 but sorry i am over the age of 12 so Spiderman isnt for me. Whilst you will get a substantial boost in fps at 1440p is not worth it at 4k as the GPU is the bottleneck. This is why i didnt bother with AM5 as the jump when using a 4k resolution isnt worth the platform upgrade...Go ahead create a video using 4k on Ultra show us the difference.. @@ByteSizeTech

@@simplysimon966 lowkey is anecdote, in the grand scheme of things it does look worthless of an upgrade but the gpu is still being bottleneck by the cpu, regardless if it running fine and doing the user(you) justice, just enjoy your pc broski.

Another big thing is if you are an Intel guy and you see Intel builds as being a mature platform, you're 100% right, AM5 is not a mature platform, it's been out for 2 years new motherboards are coming...Honestly after AM4 I don't want AM5. AM4 in 2019 held a special place and Intel wasn't really competitive..good things THAT'S over.
