Yes. It's pretty much a foregone conclusion now. If one purchases a 4090, he or she really must complement it with most current Intel or AMD board and the respective top of the line CPU. It immediately becomes a costly PC investment.

My 2700x I bought in 2020 is about done right about now to be honest, upgraded my monitor to 1440p 32" recently and I've noticed that the CPU is now starting to struggle where it didn't before, the AAA games I'm playing aren't going to get any easier to run either. My plan now is to go with a 5700x, with my 3060ti and 32gb of ram I think it's going to last me another while before a whole system upgrade, I would go 7700x as my mobo would take it but it's double the price pretty much in the UK right now. 5700x £150-160, 7700x around £300 for context, I paid £150 for my 2700x.

Yes. The once formidable 2700x has seen its day. The 5700x would be a great upgrade. However, I may have misinterpreted your comment about the board, but the 7700x is an AM5 CPU and your current 2700x is on the AM4 platform?
@mickieg1994 Жыл бұрын
@@zingwilder9989 ahh, i made a mistake there, thanks for the correction, think I was contemplating a whole new system upgrade and that's why the 7700x is stuck in my head ATM but can't justify the price hike for the new platform just yet. I bought the mobo with the intention of sticking a 5900x in it but it seems like that won't happen unfortunately, so that's probably why I jammed those two ideas together in my head 🤣
@zingwilder9989 Жыл бұрын
Understood and thanks for the response. I just wanted to mention that, just in case you did opt to go with the 7700X, then discovered that it was AM5. I think that your choice of the 5700X upgrade is excellent.@@mickieg1994

I recently got a 5600x to upgrade my wife's 3700, some might call that a sideways upgrade, some might even call it a downgrade, but it performs much better than the 3700, much better performance at 1440p, a lot less stutters in newer games, all around improvement even though it's two less cores. I did undervolt and overclock the 5600x a bit, it's running 5.0 on 2 cores and 4.85 on the rest. A 5700x will be an even more dramatic change when compared to a 2700x. Very excited for you.

In that situation I would just push for the 5800x3d 🤷🏻♂️

Also ray tracing puts more load on CPUs and it would be odd to me to have a 4090 and never use ray tracing.

I also play WoW RT off (they just added RT in Shadowlands, it's not that great, FPS tax was high in the past on old setup) 1440P but 7900XTX. I'd rather have high FPS. WoW also just has FSR no DLSS. The tree zone Ardenweald does look nice with all the trees in RT though, was testing that a couple years back. CoD I could see players wanting FPS casually/competitively rather than RT aesthetic. I was into RT for about a week when it was new, then over it. I could see a game like Cyberpunk where RT could be appealing though. These specific games WoW and CoD are more about getting high FPS for casual/competitive.

Is my i5-10600 (non-K) still good enough for 3060 ti in WOW 1440p or should I get a better cpu?
@dianaalyssa8726 Жыл бұрын
Would test out with Dragonriding new content and raiding (LFR is fine for testing). I noticed a difference going from 9600K stuttered (did try adjusting a lot of settings even resolution etc but it was annoying) to 12700KF then 12900KF 7900XTX 48gb now, think 32gb is fine, 16gb was making it while I had kit issues on the earlier rig until I moved that elsewhere. I noticed not stuttering the smoothness from 12th being much better than my old 9600K. A 10600 is marginally better IPC (had a 9600K) so it depends if you need to, if you are stuttering in the new content. I feel like dragonriding and dragonracing are about as big of a change as flying being added in WoD, taxing the poor CPU also. World boss/epic bg would be other places where the CPU could be tested for if it is performing well enough. There is more gaming cache for the i7 and i9, I noticed the smoothness, IPC performance is better on 12th than 9th. Every time I've upgraded have done the CPU first, have certainly noticed over the years from 2nd to 6th to 9th to 12th the IPC increases and higher clocks with time and eliminating the stutters. Horrific visions was when I had to leave skylake i5 due to stuttering (did the gpu later was cpu bottlenecking me and some friends even soloing). I've not regretted a CPU upgrade in improving performance. GL deciding which to do. Logical increments also listed decent pairings for WoW. The smoothness of avoiding the stutter is the main thing I noticed for Dragonflight in upgrading again. Would either test on retail or hop on PTR to test next Emerald Dream patch (hits in about a week). It does feel really nice testing areas that used to stutter and it's gone: over time the timeless isle ramp, BFA with Horrific Visions (Nzoth patch), dragonriding, and raiding. I also used to with others chunk some FPS last rig fated raids when special effects went off (m+ would be a similar situation now). My friends used to think the timeless isle ramp area by where huolon would path, was supposed to hard stutter (xd), 9600K fixed that one. If you intend to play the new ED zone, might be worth a quick test there also.

I was thinking the same thing. It was similar to the thoughts that I entertained when I had a i7-8700K and was thinking of replacing it with a i9-9900K. Everything that I read said that it wasn't worth it. Therefore, I upgraded to a LGA 1700 (13600K).@@Retadin

what do you think of the R9 5950X? I also play Warzone and other fps, I was also thinking about a future gpu upgrade, could this handle a 4090?
@SSBMBubbles Жыл бұрын
a 5950x will bottleneck a 4090, no doubt about it. my 5800x3d bottlenecks it despite being better for gaming. if possible, go for the latest and fastest CPU generation you can, like the 13900k/14900k or Ryzen 7800x3D/7950x3D

A lot of gamers are quick to say 'CPU doesn't matter', when what they really should be saying maybe is 'CPU doesn't matter as much.' Yes, a GPU will probably be the biggest difference to whatever game you're playing. But at a certain point, you need improvements in other areas too. CPU, RAM, drive, and even yes, your monitor. All parts matter. All parts can be a bottleneck.
@zingwilder9989 Жыл бұрын
Yes...everything matters. It can get to the point where you simply need to lower your expectations, unless you are willing to "break the bank" with constant upgrading.
