Born and raised hunting Gambels in AZ without a dog... you really have to chase them dirtbags, it's definitely NOT pheasant hunting. Lots of non-desert folks have a learning curve on that :-) Beautiful scenery too... thanks

@@jaredquade3960 we went to Montana back in September and hunted Sage grouse, sharpies and huns. I still have videos to put together from that trip. Hadn’t been able to get to that because I got too busy with hunting season after we got back, but should have a few from that trip up in the near future, and also still have one more grouse video from here in Michigan to do!

Great videos! Awesome scenery and great dog work! Curious how the camping was down there. Did the tent with the electric heater end up being comfortable with temps down in the 20’s in January? Anything you would do different when it came to camping and lodging down there?
@UplanderLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
Thanks man! Camping went pretty good, in all honesty. The tent stayed pretty warm at night, the one thing that I'd do different is sleep on a cot vs air. The air inside cools to whatever the air temp is and takes a lot to heat up.

It was sort of a last minute trip, we had been talking about going for a while, but I was never too serious about it until the time came. I actually quit my job two weeks prior so I could go. Life's crazy, birds and dogs are fun and the rest will sort itself out in time. Thanks for following along. Justin uses a Quail & Dove Caddy from Upland Gear. Can’t wait to start my adventures with my Brittany. Any tips I’m 17 with my first bird dog and it’s been challenging especially with a Brittany
@UplanderLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
Biggest thing is just go out there and have fun with your dog. There will be times when you both make mistakes, it's not always perfect. But you will learn to work together as a team and get there, just have fun. Join a local bird or training club, watch good handlers handle their dogs and understand what makes a good dog and you'll be well on your way. Good luck out there and thanks for following along!

No you don’t. I believe the shots look farther away because the size of the birds make them look farther. I just got back from spending a month hunting down there. Started with a modified and switched to an IC shortly after for the majority of the time.

You guys should be running two dogs. Alot of old timers will tell you to shoot at the coveys that are running on the ground. Thats going to be your best luck for splitting them up. Gambels are my least fav quial to hunt
@UplanderLifestyle2 жыл бұрын
For sure, two dogs would be ideal. Normally we run of a brace of dogs when hunting. But on this trip we were planning on hunting for two weeks or more, and we were limited to our 5 dogs. So we decided to run one dog at a time so we didn’t burn out dogs too fast in rough country. We ran two or three dogs throughout the day and the other dogs got a day or two rest in before their next run. When we hunted mearns we did brace dogs up and run two at a time because we were focusing on larger areas, so those days burned up more dog power. That’s just how it worked out to get the most out of the dogs we had.
