Minnesota officially recognized Indigenous People’s Day this October 9th. As part of the Friends’ commitment to foster allyship with Indigenous people and Native Nations, we hear from two Indigenous members of the Minnesota Legislature, state Senator Mary Kunesh from New Brighton and state Representative Heather Keeler from Moorhead.
Senator Kunesh is of Standing Rock Sioux Tribe heritage. Representative Keeler is an enrolled member of the Yankton Sioux Tribe. Senator Kunesh and Representative Keeler discuss how their Indigenous backgrounds inform their perspectives and their legislative service, and share their insight into key legislative initiatives that support Indigenous interests in the past and upcoming legislative session.
