Hey guys, in this video, I demonstrate a relatively new product by UPOL, their Fantastic Glass UP0293 fiberglass filler. I've been wanting to try it out, and I'm shocked with the differences between this and Bondo Hair fiberglass filler. I've never been a big fan of Bondo, but I bought the fiberglass product because it was on sale several months ago. Well, you get what you pay for. I'll never make that mistake again! But you'll be surprised to see what I have to say about the Fantastic Glass product. Have you used this before? What is your favorite fiberglass filler? Let me know in the comments!

The "clumpiness" is because the Bondo is a long hair and the UPOL is not, and as stated by others, you have to mix it better/differently to be sure it hardens evenly I use gloves and just get in and dirty with it, you have to press it more than spread it,,, long hair does not "spread"... I do love the UPOL product and use them extensively.... but the bondo long hair is very strong and will not crack like some of the other glass reinforced filler...

I also the fantastic glass from upol, and yes it does mix and spread much better. I’ve been using upol products for a couple of years now, and have no complaints with their body working products.

Well, so I noticed that my O'Reilly is no longer stocking the Bondo Glass, which should be the comparable product to the Upol Fantastic Glass. After watching your video, I DEFINITELY feel a lot better about trying out the Upol. I've tried their glaze spot putty, and I wasn't crazy about it. But you've convinced me to try this stuff. Thanks for sharing! ...btw, as far as parts stores go, O'Reilly is the ONLY place for PBE (paint and body), their selection is outstanding. (Not including specialty stores)

You're right about that. It sucks to use, but it DOES do very well for tool handles!

Upol has some great products, especially for the money. I LOVE their Raptor coating. I try to stay away from "Bondo" branded products whenever possible. Of course, anything Evercoat makes tends to be great but is usually quite pricey. However, about two months ago, I needed just a couple of skim coats of filler and had used up my gallon container of Rage Gold. I ran to either Autozone or O'Reilly and got a quart of "Evercoat Body Shop Gold Filler", mainly because I didn't need that much and those stores were much closer than my paint supplier. I found this stuff to be awesome. Mixed great, good consistency, and sanded very easily with very few pinholes.

I used to get the Raptor product, but now I use Shield by TCI. It's better than Raptor, and costs the same! 30% less shrinkage, plus it has a better color, and only takes 15 minutes flash time between coats vs 45 minutes with Raptor. AND the Raptor product has to stay inside a lot longer before it can withstand rain spotting. Other than that, I LOVE the UPOL products. I have used the Evercoat Gold, and it is a great product. There's no reason to spend the money on RAGE with Evercoat Gold and UPOL Fantastic Professional for 1/4th the cost. Thanks for watching, great feedback!

You can check out my prior videos to get a look at the TCI Shield product. Look for the one on the 1984 El Camino. I had shot a video prior to that on yet another El Camino that I used Raptor on, and the most recent one was with Shield.

Right on brother! Well this stuff is PREMIUM, in my opinion. I haven't had a problem with ANY of the U-POL products since I first discovered them. Like I mentioned, the body filler is almost as good as Rage, sands super easy. The glaze filler is awesome, and it's cheap. Like $20 or less for the bottle. This glass product is far and beyond what I expected. My only complaint is that they don't fill the containers to the rim, but that's due to rising supply cost, and most brands are doing this now so they can keep the retail price reasonable. If you haven't tried their primers, you should look into those too. I'll be shooting a video on that next. I use the gray, white, and black primers. They shoot great, and sand extremely easily, and they are low-cost. The BIGGEST advantage that I'll mention on the primer is that you can use the same activator they make for the clear coat product. That makes it so much easier, and for someone who doesn't do production shooting on a regular basis, it helps you to be able to use up the activator container faster, before it goes bad. It will oxidize over time, after a few months, just from opening up the container for each use. So the faster I can go through a can of 2332, the better! Nothing is worse than having to throw away expensive activator that has oxidized!

@@colorbosscustomautobody8140 you know IV used alot of there spray can products and enjoyed them including the raptor liner products that are also.made by upol. I super like the raptor acid etch in the spray can for sure. IV loved those for small projects instead of sooooo much cleaning. Thanks 😊

I absolutely HATE Bondo. The filler is awful, and so is the fiberglass. What I didn't like about it was the lumpiness of the product. The UPOL Glass goes on like butter. It's a LOT easier for spreading, in my opinion. The Bondo is thicker and it also does not mix as easily. It takes a lot longer time to get it mixed to a homogenous state. And it takes longer to kick. Not the case with the UPOL Glass. I just love this product!

@colorbosscustomautobody8140 I def agree 👍 I've been using the evercoat auto parts store stuff lately and it's many levels above bondo. Haven't tried their rage gold and other more professional, but will soon.

Sorry but I’m not a fan of the upol glass I feel it’s like oily seeming as if it’s slippery so mixing it is weird compared to regular filler I also noticed the adhesion while spreading is trash. Ik it’s still wet but still there’s adhesion is fillers that help it stick to the panel this did not want to at all it just keeps smearing right off

Interesting! I don't usually go straight on with the UPOL. If I have a large area, I start with the Kitty Hair long strand. Then I will rough sand it. THEN I go in to level that off using the UPOL Glass, and it sticks to that glass like magic. I can bet it is harder to apply this stuff to straight metal. You do have to really have the knack for how to spread it, or it will frustrate the hell out of you!

I just got a gallon of upol fantastic and I like it better than 3m and i don't think I can tell the difference between the upol and evercoat its a full gallon and it sands really well too
@colorbosscustomautobody8140
@colorbosscustomautobody8140 5 ай бұрын
Exactly! It spreads on like butter, and sanding is very easy. 3M sucks. It might be a super strong material, but it's like concrete when it comes to sanding. I used to also use Evercoat, and sometimes I would spend the bucks on Rage. But there's no reason to get those products anymore. This stuff performs!

Hahaha! Shots fired!!! Yeah I just don't like Bondo. Some people use it and love it. My mans SprayWay still uses Bondo, and he can work magic with that stuff. I'm definitely not on his skill level though. But I ain't tryin' to spend hours of my time sanding on that concrete-a$$ Bondo! 😂😂😂

Yes the glaze is the bomb. I am going to mention it on my next video. I just realized that the new filler I bought that you see in the video is updated from the previous UPOL Fantastic. It's a different color, and the new can says "professional filler" on it. The stuff is amazing. Tried it for the first time tonight and it was probably the best filler I've ever used outside of Rage.

Do you think this product would work for adhering a metal screen onto fiberglass? I know it's a bit of an odd question but I came into possession of two very old fiberglass reptile enclosures from a company called Glas'Technic which no longer exists and I've been working on repairing them. Part of these repairs involve the screens on the tops of the enclosures where light fixtures are supposed to go. I can't have my snakes getting themselves poked and scratched up on bits of broken screen so I tore the old ones out and now I'm trying to figure out how to stick the new ones on. It doesn't have to look good since the spot they'll be attached to is usually hidden and is already made of unpolished fiberglass (idk if that's the right term but it's not smooth like the front-facing parts of the enclosures). I actually found your video because I was going to use Bondo for this job but now I'm not so sure. I understand that this is probably not something you've done before but I can hardly find any evidence of these fiberglass reptile enclosures ever existing online, let alone info on how to repair them. Seems like car guys are the true champs of fiberglass DIY and probably my best hope for advice on this.

Look me up on Instagram and send me some pictures. I would like to see that. I'm thinking that the openings might be a little big, if a snake could get through. But you could take some fiberglass mat material and lay that down and then put your filler on it. Or you could even use some metal screen material. Something else that would work is taking some metal scrubbing pads like the Brillo pads without the soap. Stretch that apart and flatten it, and you could use that to cover the cage holes and then apply your fiberglass filler. This stuff is really good and I think it would work on practically anything, as long as you have enough surface for it to adhere to a not break apart. But it does dry very hard!

You've got to be careful putting on that much, but I would say 1/4" is definitely the limit. This stuff is SUPER tough once it hardens. Whenever you have a job where you have to put on more than 1/4" of filler, it's a good idea to start with a layer of long strand, or this short strand glass, and then put body filler over that. I've seen body filler crack severely over the years from expanding and contracting, but I think the glass product will resist cracking a lot better since you have the fiber reinforcement in it. Have you tried this stuff yet? It's AMAZING!
