At 10:01 you show the removal of the cowl drain tube. Mine broke during one winter when water would drain, the water ran on to the serpentine belt, acting like oil, causing the belt to slide off the tensioner and idler pulleys. A real pain especially if you are in a remote rural area. The after market fix is to get a pulley guard kit made by Dorman includes add on guard sheave and a longer mounting bolt. Remove pulley discard OEM bolt. Insert new longer bolt thru guard sheave and pulley then rethread bolt into engine, reinstall serpentine belt. This is a known problem from Chrysler. Further, if the "wheel well splash guard" is missing this will also cause the same problem when you hit a puddle of water splashing upon that side of the engine. Hope this helps we are all in this together. :)

Mike Schmidt I wonder why [belt slippage] only seems to be a problem on some Chrysler minivans. I have a 93 Grand Voyager and I've never had my belt come off, even when it got really wet. It just makes a slightly different noise until all the water is flung off. If the belt is straight and all the pulleys are in alignment (and have good bearings), theoretically, there shouldn't be any forces acting to push the belt off.

Thank you so much for this 2-part DIY intake removal and installation. Even though I have a '99 and there are just a few minor differences (I'm sure that's only bc the engineers wanted to piss me off even more than I already was with their insane "cab forward" design), your videos got me through what needed to be done down to the valley gasket. I'd never before worked on a vehicle in my life and didn't expect to have to learn at 54 y/o, but shit happens. I really don't have the words to express my full gratitude. I can only tell you that without people like you, who care to share their knowledge, this "old lady" would not have a functioning vehicle today and would never have found out that she really is capable of what she once thought she could never accomplish. :-)

I was an engine mechanic in the U.S. Navy and have been doing my own car repairs (when I can) for a long time. I've watched your videos but haven't attempted the work yet. Fingers crossed! I have this exact same mini-van and she's got oil leaking from valve gasket cover on to spark plugs and plug wires (because a bad mechanic put on the WRONG valve cover gasket on the front side of the mainfold!). So now I'm going to replace the plugs and wires, air filter (it has oil leaking on to it), and clean up the oil. I don't know if I can replace the BACK valve cover gasket myself though with the right one because I'd have to remove the manifold and that seems really complicated :-(

19:27: What you are seing there is the intake runner, not the cylinder head and that other thing you are seeing there is the intake valve stem in the runner, not the push rod. Handy vid however despite the small mistakes. Also, your rockers look fabulous. Somebody changes the oil pretty regularly.

I am so glad to finally see a decent video of how to remove the upper plenum & necessary parts to get to the valve cover gaskets. I hope my repairs go as smooth as yours seem to be going. The two bids I got for replacing valve cover gaskets were over $400.00. As another comment says "the chilton manual doesn't explain enough in full detail like you".

I do not recommend doing a fuel o-ring fix unless the injectors are leaking. (Do a pressure test by turning the car to the on position)... trying to get 6 injectors properly seated and not leaking is challenging for the ameture do-it-yourself-er. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. It was a great opportunity to change out the rear spark plugs, but really gave myself a headache on the injectors.
@905speedgta10 жыл бұрын
Christopher Wiesmueller I Dont Agree with this Comment. And No Offense, Its Bad Advice. It is true the old saying " if It aint Broke dont Fix it". However, Theres a Term Called " Preventative Maintanence. " Your taking the upper intake out, this is the perfect time to do it. The Rubber O-rings Rot Out, and your disturbing everything. Ive seen them Leak before just by lifting a intake out. For the D.I.Y'er's out there and anyone reading this... This youtube Channel is for you. NOBODY has to be a professional to approach something like this, or anything on my Channel. If its here, I did it and it worked, and it never came back a problem.. Rubber O-rings will Fight you going into dry metal. This is why you dont insert new Dry O-Rings into its bore without spraying alittle SILICONE SPRAY. Not WD40 or PB Blaster . Silicone Spray, you can find it in your autoparts store. it goes on and lubrates but then drys up.. Has Anyone ever had a problem putting hoses or Radiatior hoses on metal lines or other fittings?. Dont Fight it..Use SILICONE SPRAY. Working on cars is supposed to be an experience, not a nightmare..

905speedgta Its a 18 year old van (I am doing this on an early model year 1997 T&C). I understand preventive maintenance, but on a van this old, in its sunset years, which I bought really cheap three years ago off friends, I don't know that it is worth it. I am now fiddle futzing with fuel injector o rings in a "boy with his finger in the dam fashion" except it is flammable gas, not water. I just wish I had left them alone or at least pressure checked first for leaks to make sure the repair was a necessity. (My gas mileage was so bad, maybe I needed to do it anyway). I did vaseline them up before sliding them in. I'll try my silicone spray next and i'll go buy another set of o rings. By the way, I had to take the upper air manifold off because I tried to replace the EGR valve (car kills on cold days until engine warms up and the repair seemed easy enough) but one of the bolts was seized. I broke the head off, so I needed to do something with the upper air manifold to fix that (opted to buy cheap replacement on ebay). In a domino effect, I am now repairing fuel injectors. I can't say it hasn't been a nightmare. The only silver lining is that I am not paying someone to do this. Like I said, no problem doing the aged rear spark plugs while it is off, and I guess I'll be happy when the fuel injectors are properly sealed, but I wish I had left the injectors alone. I understand if you don't agree and I understand why, but if you are at the point I am, that you are taking the van to the junk yard, the next time something you can't repair yourself goes...then, yeah, I'd say leave the fuel injectors alone.

Christopher Wiesmueller Older more rusted out cars you always proceed with caution . Ive worked on probably a few thousand cars in my lifetime so far, I havent seen it all but Ive seen alot. In that time Ive had maybe a dozen bolts break off on me to the point where I had to drill out the studs and re thread them. I take my time with jobs like this, I very rarely use air tools ( not saying you did) . But Im just very careful. Especially with Vacuum lines. times in un avoidable theres nothing you can do. I usually patch the plastic vacuum lines with rubber vacuum hose. Your letting this job stress you out, and when that Happens its over. and nothing goes right. I wish I would of saw your reply sooner and not 2 months down the road. If your still persuing this job, and you need help, please contact me at my Email which is AZSgarage2004@aol.com . My Website is 905speedGTA.com and is under contruction right now and Im working to put up useful information for people like you who are jammed up in a mess like this. The Fuel injectors are sometimes a pain in the ass to do, the reason for that is its not such a smooth surface in the injector housing. Injectors leak after replacement because they are not seated properly. if a O ring Rolls in ts place that will do it too, the rolling causes it to Bind ruining the seal. Another reason is Contamination. make sure that mating surface is squeaky clean. Lube the O ring up with silicone spray. vaseline can be used but in small amounts. you can be more liberal with silicone spray. you can spray alitle in the injecter ports too..When your mating the fuel rail to the injector holes make sure you just place the entire rail in a way where there injectors are about to go into the holes. once you get them line up, send them in pushing them down in sections, for example, treat the fuel rail like its a rectangular box. start pushing down in a rubbing slow motion and you will actually feel them sink in, then do it on the left side the the other sides. you will know when its in when the retaining bolt holes yu actually mount the rail down to line up. he best thing you could of done was replace those injector o rings, they are prone to leaking. make sure the injector clips and the power terminals are all securly connected.. bolt it down then turn the igntion to the on position, don start just turn it on to energize the injectors and check for leaks. I did this on my first shot with no leaks. as long as you follow my guide you should have the same result. let me know how you made out
@michelem1898 жыл бұрын
I'm so glad I didn't read this before I started this overwhelming (for me) project. The o-rings on the fuel injectors and re-seating the fuel injectors, with no leaks, was a breeze on my 99 Caravan. One of the few things I did that I didn't find myself cursing the engineers about. I'm also glad, bc the o-rings, while not totally shot, were visibly worn.
@ChristopherWiesmueller8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you do it right the first time, its great. As I recall, the part that was less than great was having to take it all apart and reassemble it again when I didn't do it right the first time. I still do feel that it added unnecessary complexity and potential for complications to the job. After the job was completed, I also had a need to frequently check my fuel injectors for leaks, just to make sure.

I have a '98 Chry T&C AWD I purchased with 241K on it. I went thru did the regular engine oil/filter and tranny fluid/filter changes and belt changes to have a base line to with which to work. The tranny is original to the vehicle old fluid was red as it should be, no burnt smell, no slipage in shiftings. I currently have 249K on it the only other thing I have had to do is replace the input and output speed sensors on the tranny and the O2 sensor on the engine manifold. It runs great!

Thank you 905SpeedGTA, you ROCK!! I'm finally diving in and doing this, although I may have bigger problems from letting the van sit for two years... I can't believe how crusty my fuel injector o-rings are! And turns out there was a big recall on the o-rings/fuel rail. The dealership fix sounded like they would check the rail for leaks and if not leaking only address the quick disconnect area and only go in and replace the o-rings if they were leaking. I could be wrong in my interpretation of the docs., but I don't think my van's have EVER seen the light of day since the factory, and I see replacing the o-rings as absolutely necessary. oh, btw, I'm weak. so I have to finesse everything instead of brute force removal. I used a slim screwdriver type trim tool to pry the fuel injectors out. ez! hard before! I thought I couldn't reach the screws on the back that hold on the wiring harness and tipped the plenum forward and then one screw went flying off, so in retrospect, I wish I had left it (plenum) sitting down solid and found a way instead of now wondering where that screw is.
@thejim7711 жыл бұрын
If you disconnect the front motor mount you can tilt the entire motor forward. They make a tool for just that reason. It makes a heck of a lot easier to get the air intake system off.

I found your video helpful. all I was doing was changing the rear bank spark plugs which are the origenal that came with the van...... (I've owned it less than a year.) I can understand why they have never been changed. it is a daunting task. I found a more convenient way to get the intake plenum off. you take the wipers off, remove the plastic vent cover and remove the wiper mechanism tray. its easyer than it sounds. this opens up the top of the engine compartment. you can get to everything except the spark plugs. you still have to remove the plenum to get to them.

Between your sniffling and your sinuses draining, it’s quite gross listening to your audio. When you figure that out start thinking about your camera work.

Thanks, but no thanks. 10 years on KZbin with Two Subscribers and 1 video and your giving me criticism I could care less about. And by the way, if you don’t like a video skip over it like anyone else would. Thanks for the laugh.

dude dragging that intake manifold on the ground like that is a big mistake scratch the edges or surface you my as well buy a new one jeez . also do not take the intake manifold off unless the engine is completely cool other wise it can warp and never seal like factory
