Great video. Did all this myself after watching part 1. Totally agree about taking the wiper tub out but people need to also remember to reattach the tub drain tubes. I remembered that lying in bed the night I did it. Be careful with those wiper arms. They're aluminum and I broke one trying to use a 3 jaw puller. Ended up making a tool for pulling the arms. Also, good idea to hit the rear 3 plugs and o2 sensor while top end is off.

Great work! Thanks for taking the time to post these 2 videos on this job. I replaced the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs and wires on my 2001 Town & Country a couple weeks ago. I removed the wiper tray assembly before starting and it was STILL pretty challenging for me. I'd never done anything like that before. I'm a total mechanic wannabe so I enjoyed every minute of the 8 or so hours it took me lol!! I can't imagine taking the whole top end out.. I don't know if I could do it.. but I'd refer to these videos of yours if I did. Thanks again!! Cheers!

Excellent, Excellent, Excellent !! I know it takes allot of work and effort to make these videos. You have to hold the camera. perform the work and document parts. Not to mention the editing. Your videos actually give many of use the inspiration to do our own work. Thanks, I'm sure you've saved many thousands of dollars in mechanic fees.Thanks, Jerry

Your video inspired me replace my very leaky valve cover gaskets and spark plugs on my 98 Grand Voyager. After removing the plenum I noticed two of the manifold bolts had broken necessitating the removal of the manifold and replacement of the valley gasket. It's all buttoned back up but i have a problem: it won't idle below 2500-3000 rpm. Vacuum leak? All vacuum hoses have been replaced with new as they were very brittle and kept breaking. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

Thank you for the video it was a big help in taking off the intake manifold. I bought new valve cover gaskets and I want to put them in, can you tell me what to do with the thick rubber gasket that is in the cover? The gaskets I got are the blue coated metal ones, they are not as thick as the rubber one that is in the cover. Do these blue ones replace the old rubber one or do they go together?

You were right. I did the soapy dishwater spray around the intake, connected 80psi from the air compressor into the brake booster hose to the intake manifold. There were leaks all the way around the upper plenum gasket. I pulled it off (actually only took about 30 min) because I had practice and the wiper motor housing was off still. I forgot to scrape some old gasket material from the upper half of the intake. After that runs like a charm, no vacuum leaks any more! :-)

i had my mechanic on my 94 cav on a problem that i do feel and still its feeding in to much gas and so i drove bout 40 miles total on half tank then had just 3 lines left or say lesser than dat i put in 7.45g of gas and filled it almost to the brim... sooo is it my gas gage playing wit me cuz i do smell some gas leakage but dont know were is coming as my van has done all tunnings. i hope u catch my drift thanks DGC!!

I was thinking (before I got to the part where you removed the wiper tray) that it would be so much easier to remove it. I had to remove the one on my 2001 to replace an 02 sensor and it wasn't that hard to do and gives you so much more room, i went ahead and replaced the spark plugs too while I had it off.

Good job, I stumbled on this as I was looking for a head gasket video. Very detailed, and well done, especially for a first time. I love my 3.3 in my 2003 Chrysler T & C, faithful & smooth, but even an engine like this needs major work now & then. Ever do the water pump, or that metal pipe? If so your already versed like me living in snow heaven, Any time you change that pump, change that pipe too! I've changed out a few and the pressure from the new pump can weaken a weak pipe, = more $ & time!

Thanks for the video. I have question for you. Had to take off my intake manifold to access the metal heater hoses connected to the firewall. While there I replaced spark plugs and wires. Installed new intake gasket and reinstalled everything else. Started the van and noticed that the engine would jerk a little then I would hear a pop from the muffler. Would this be a vacuum leak? Was I supposed to put anything on the gasket when installing the manifold? Any help would be great. Thanks.

Seriously, there are vacuum lines on the back of the intake manifold? By the firewall? I don't remember seeing those. Uhmmm. I only had 2 bolts and 2 nuts on the upper plenum to lower intake. They are right in the middle left to right. I torqued them alternating from inside to outside bolts. Is there any extra bolts for the upper plenum? I noticed a couple injectors wouldn't seat very well in the lower manifold. Could that be it? I'm going to blow compressed air in and use soapy water bubbles

HEY, I CHANGED MY UPPER PLENUM GASKET LIKE YOU BECAUSE MY VALVE COVER GASKETS WERE BAD. Now I think I have A MASSIVE vaccum leak. When I start the van, it runs at 3000 RPM and won't slow down. Throttle is closed. I blew smoke into the intake and its coming out from under the upper plenum somewhere. DID YOUR ENGINE RUN A VERY FAST IDLE WHEN YOU HAD THE BIG VACUUM LEAK FROM THE MISSING BOLTS AND SEALS ON LOWER INTAKE? THANKS!

if you have missing bolts you have a problem. it sounds like you didnt tighten them in sequence. or you did and accidently skipped over a bolt ( i did this ). the bolt that was loose was the one on the left hand side by the fuel rail. tighten them all down again while its running. Dont forget about the vacuum line s on the back right side of the engine. let me know how it turned out

i used the video to guide me on the 3.8L engine, which is almost identical, except it is a must to take out the wiper tray, I couldn't have gotten the plenum out otherwise. Also, this is the best time to get back there and replace the rear spark plugs. The only problem with working on a van this old is the number of rusted and seized bolts, which is why I had to do this work in the first place (broke the head of a seized EGR valve bolt). I did a lot of spraying and torching to get this apart. BTW, if you happen to lose the alternator B- nut, it is a M6 1.0. Be patient on the EGR tube bolts...if it is it not coming out, keep working at it...breaking or cutting the EGR line will put you in a new kind of hell.

I find that, when ever I need to do work in the plenum top area of the engine, removing the wiper cowel and tray opens up a lot of room to work. In regard to the fuel rail the cross over on mine is starting to leak. Are there "O" rings in the clamps for the cross-over section? Of course Chrysler has no rebuild kit for this they are VERY happy to sell you a new Fuel Rail assembly for $144... frankly, I AM CHEAP ! I would rather spend $2 for a set of "O" rings and replace those.

Roger Barnhart I used felpro. what year is your van? for some reason Ive worked in a auto shop and auto parts store before and there catalog systems are messed up . If you have a 2000 or a 1999 caravan voyager or town and country with the 3.3 or 3.8 try ordering the parts you need for a 1997 1998 caravan. anytime I get a 1999 or a 2000 ( especially 2000) I get parts for the next generation caravan wich is 2001 to 2007 and many things are different
@asth8413
@asth8413 10 жыл бұрын
905speedgta the reason why you get the same parts on the 99 to 2000 from 4 th is because they change the motor in the 3.8 and 3.3 so they had 4th generation block. The engine look pretty much the same other then horse power. So actually 3.3 had 180 hp and the 3.8 had 200hp. Chrysler lied in the engine specs. Great channel. Good video too:)

head gaskets are easy. just follow the video, and when you get down to the heads remove all the bolts, remove all exhaust bolts carfully from ex manifold..use pri bar to pry up heads..send heads to machine shop to het checked for warping. have them deck the heads, have compression test done. buy head gasket set with new head bolts..sound like u have a dirty abs tone ring in the back wheels.. a contaminated tone ring can Give the ABS comp a False reading. Result abs light is on..let me know

yeah, it sounds like you have a big vacuum leak. What id do is get yourself a spray bottle fill it half way with water, and add a few drops of dish detergent to it to get a soapy mix.. Spray everywhere you worked while the engine is running. theres not many vacuum lines But ive found leaks at the PCV Valve and at the intake plenum because the intake plenum wasnt properly seated and torqued down.. try that and let me know the results. Im willing to bet your problem is a loose intake bolt..
