Veterinary care has become so obscenely expensive that animals are being abandoned in droves. It wasn't always like this. They are now doing some of the same diagnostics and treatments on animals that they do on humans for thousands and thousands of dollars. My vet wanted almost $1800 to clean my cat's teeth!!! What a joke.

@@mrgarrison9632 I found a formula that helps you just need to spend a lot of time on the cat and give it constant humidity I recommend putting your cat in a cage or under a clothes basket and facing the humidifier towards the basket then drape a towel over so it’s like a sauna in there humidity helps the best I found! and warm damp towel to wipe their boogies you must keep it constantly clean you may also use saline like humans use it helps keep their nostrils clear better for them to breathe but something that helps the infection is apple cider vinegar it’s great for cats so add a tea spoon to the cats water to help also manuka honey can be added for the same thing it’s just more effective and stronger but cats don’t like the sweet taste btw and if your kitten is skinny get this vitamin supplement from petco called tomlyn. If your cat is strangling to eat take away the water and make the cats food super runny so it’s basically water, sometimes they just can’t eat bc of the infection. I hope this helps I saved a few with this

I've used non medicated saline for children. A drop in each and that allows them to sneeze out the infection. They get better faster. Also a 5ml low fat yogurt two times a day brings down a fever and helps with the tummy and prevents upsets also helps give cats a appetite. That helps my cats. With lots of prayer too. These days theres a long waiting list to get in a vets office so this is all I have and it works.

There is a new Virulent Calicivirus that is more severe and fatal. It causes stomatitis on the back mouth and gum tissues around the back teeth and tonsil area as well as swollen face/nasal bridge, and sometimes swollen oedema in fert/legs. Several of my cats had stomatitis and my vet said all teeth needed to be removed or the cat euthanized but several of my other cats had stomatitis too which isn't contagious. I researched and it's a newer type of Calicivirus which most vets don't know about or fail to recognize. It's sad that do many cats are being euthanized when they just need antibiotics and supportive therapy for severe Calicivirus. Please help share this info.

Thank you so much for this great video! I have a cat that has had a URI since I first adopted her 11 years ago. Have seen many different vets over the years, spent lots of money, but no results. She is eating only half of what she used to eat and I think it’s due to her not being able to smell. I give her Lysene twice a day, but she still sneezes and coughs quite often. I also give her added chicken broth with her normal food which she loves to lick up first and i think it helps her stay more hydrated. I hope I am doing the right thing. I love her so much.

Our pleasure Gudrun, I would also recommend getting a saline solution only nose drops. A drop or two in each nostril will help clear mucus and open the nasal passages to help improve breathing. Check with your local pharmacist, they should be able to tell what over the counter nasal drops will work. Make no other chemicals are included, it'll cause burning. Sheryl at Revival. 🙂

@@RevivalAnimal Hi! I’m having a lingering effect with my kitten (5/6 mo.) where he has reverse sneezing attacks and just being snotty, He’s been treated with antibiotics and getting his daily “sauna” sessions when I shower, I’ve also been giving him Lysene for a little over a month now. I was recommended polysporin pink eye drops but I did some research and found out it could be toxic so I consulted my vet and he informed me that it was safe as long as I wiped off all the excess. I also had him in for his weigh-in and booster shots and learned that he lost .3kg (mind you he was wiggly). Nothing seems to be working, I feel so horrible sitting there watching him sneeze and gasp and I feel like there’s nothing I can do, do you have any tips for how to stop these attacks?

I’d be careful with the broth because of sodium my boy (tuxedo) has life long respiratory issues I keep him away from the air conditioning -- dust free litter and he sits in the bathroom when we take hot showers for the steam aside from supplements and really good diet he does ok. Never quite 100% but I’ll take it oh and I make homemade food using organ meats to add to the meal plan. Going up cooked meats if you have little mouths or worried about chewing and swallowing I buy hearts liver and gizzards aside from some seafood special stuff for a mix. Good luck everyone

@@RevivalAnimal find your suggestion of using saline nose drops in cats and kittens rather disturbing! The CHANCE of Aspirating it into the lungs is not worth it and can lead to pneumonia! I've seen that happen in our 2 generation Veterinary clinic! I use an infant suction bulb to suck mucous from the noses of animals, just like for human babies and children! Cat's especially DON'T FORGET what they can perceive being DROWNED by putting saline drops in their nose! Good morning Chet, According to a study by Fascetti et al., oral administration of Lysine to cats that are infected with FHV-1 is associated with a significant reduction in the severity of clinical signs and basal viral shedding. VCA Animal Hospitals agrees and says “there is anecdotal evidence that Lysine works to suppress the symptoms of feline herpes virus.” Plus, they assure that side effects are uncommon, especially if the supplement is mixed with food. It is believed that Lysine halts the replication of the virus by interfering with another amino acid called arginine, which the virus needs in order to replicate. Veterinarians may also use this amino acid to help reduce symptoms of upper respiratory infections and conjunctivitis if it is associated with the herpes virus. Sheryl at Revival.

We have 3 kittens who have upper respiratory infections (also have 2 cats & a dog) & I’m scared to death. I live on SSI & can’t afford to take them to the vet. Is there any home remedies anyone has tried, that actually works & is safe? It just breaks my heart that Vets won’t work with people because so many people have not paid them back, so now they won’t help anyone. I wish I had a veterinarian near us who worked with people. Let us make payments every week, something. My friend just had to put her not even 4 month old Beagle to sleep when he had a 50/50 chance of surviving IF she has $2000 a night for 7-10 days, not counting the money for surgery & meds. I don’t know how any veterinarian could take a puppies life over money! A life should be more important then money & that boils my blood.

@@RevivalAnimal could you help please? I got two rescue cats at home, one of them is newly adopted for about three weeks. She has been sneezing a couple times a day for two weeks. I took her to the vet last week. The vet said she got herpevirus, the most common issue for cats. At the same time, I am doing slow introduction for these two cats at home. I don't know what to do now, it seems like that she is still sneezing every day. I give her lysine twice a day. That's what the vet suggested and I followed his instructions. Her eyes and nose discharge is improving, but still sneezing. Wondering if she has chronic upper respiratory issue or not. My concern is that does it cost a lot like thousands dollars for me to maintain her health? Second thing is that does pet insurance cover the medical charges when it is an ongoing issue? My last concern is that if it is a chronic health issue, do I have to separate her from my original cat who is healthy for the rest of her life, or until she completely get well. Good morning Frooty Punch. I'm sorry to hear your cat isn't doing well. Unfortunately some cats with chronic rhinitis may need to have nasal flushes or even surgery to manage their condition. There are some things that you can do to help your cat. 1. Warm, humid air Dry, cold air can irritate nasal passages and cause mucous to dry and adhere to the nasal walls. A humidifier can help keep the nasal passages open so your cat can breathe easier. Alternatively, taking your cat with you into the bathroom while you shower can have a similar effect. 2. Nursing care-Clean your cat’s face with a warm washcloth to remove mucous and make sure your cat is warm and as comfortable as possible. 3. Warm, strong-smelling food-Cats with rhinitis have a difficult time smelling food, making their meals very unappetizing. Warming your cat’s food will help make it more aromatic and appealing. It's important to find the cause of your cat's rhinitis so that it can be managed and treated. Sheryl at Revival.

@@RevivalAnimal Thanks for the feed back. But I am sure you know what the results are from that amount of steroid injections, especially when you are treating constipation with only that. The first visit for this, her left ilium bone popped up overnight and was sticking out of her back next to her sacrum. I asked my vet what was sticking out of her back, he knocked on it like a door and said it was just bone and it wasn’t bothering her, even though I told him that she was walking funny and straining to poop. He did not manipulate her leg or watch her walk. She had a broken pelvis years before this. He said she was in good health because she was purring. He scolded me because I quit feeding her cheese. He said there was nothing wrong with that and talked me back into feeding it to her. She developed diarrhea after 5 months of constipation. He emailed me and told me to feed her foods higher in protein like tuna. If it wasn’t better in 4 days, I could give her OTC Kaopectate at 4ml every 6 hours and repeat the steroid injection. I thought maybe she had diabetic neuropathy because her gait was getting worse so I asked him about it. He said she probably does because diabetes is the trade off for steroids and insulin is a hassle. He continued the 40mg injections after this. He also told me that the nerve problems in her front legs and head tremors were nothing to worry about. In the following video is her post op hip xray, which you will then understand why she had problems for years and it broke again. The surgery made it worse. The screws are not in the inner bone, they are actually pushing it over more which narrowed her pelvic canal and pulled/pinched the sciatic nerve. It also left her with a permanent SI luxation. You can see 6 years later her right rear paw is knuckling, dragging her tail, and you can see the left ilium bone move up and down through her back as she walked: kzbin.info/www/bejne/p2qVfKKLmbODZq8 Fifteen visits in 6 months and they couldn’t figure out that her hip broke again and they never offered any stool softeners. I was giving her pumpkin but it probably made it worse because it was obstipation.

He said to fill a bowl in the morning and when she stops eating, remove the bowl. Repeat for dinner and that will be the amount to feed her everyday. That was the complete instructions. Had she stopped for a bathroom break during this test, she could have easily ended up with hepatic lipidosis from losing weight too quickly. @no body that you know True but like human medicine, these practitioners have a business to run. Owning and running an office, maintaining medical equipment, buying medical supplies, maintaining a DEA permit & licensing, paying staff, and fees for bio waste disposal are expensive. Some vets offices have support from their local communities, governmental grants (esp. for rabies prevention/spay&neuter), financial donors, volunteers & apprentices, and creditor business partnerships account sales for customers. IMO it’s better to protect your pets by investing in a health insurance plan or finding subsidized care in your local community. If you cannot find subsidized care in your community, try searching a community pet clinic nearby. Ex.: a private clinic may charge $30 for 1st round vaccines for cats, but a government subsidized clinic may charge $11. This is true in my own community. Additionally spay and neuter is free for shelter pets and subsidized for adoptions outside the shelter brought to the same clinic. This is to say that both consumers & their pet patients, and practitioners can help bring down the cost of care and improve the quality of life for pets by the resourceful use of governmental and community assistance.

My cat has some sort of eye infection with one slower lymph node and a slight cough. The vet put a fluorescent stain in his to check for ulcers which he was clear for. However, the next day is eye was way worse and I believe the stain irritated his eye more. His eye dishcharge was clear and slightly reddish brown. Now it's a mucous green. They gave us an ointment for his eye and famciclovir 125 mg every 12 hours for 14 days. Now my question is about the famciclovir, from what I've looked up its used to treat feline herpes. His test at the vet was negative for the feline herpes and he's being vaccinated for it, his next booster is in less than 2 weeks. Why would they prescribe him famciclovir and why is the dosage so dang high. Just a side note, he was a stray I found, he has at least 2 kinds of worms, a dislocated hip, and this eye/upper respiratory issues. Today... My cat died she was just a kitten her mom died because of i guess UTI and for being old. For the last few weeks i can already tell that my kitten has a sick because she keeps on sneezing and i thought i was just nothing like some hair stuck on her nose or something so i ignored it.... This week i was so worried because she didnt eat her food and sometimes her poop is wet and im getting more worried and worried so i search for a treatment like home made remedies, i cant afford for a vet so i was hoping for home remedies but i didnt find a solution for her sickness and i thought she can heal herself because i thought cats can heal themselves and sometimes they dont want to be bothered so all i did was to let her stay hydrated and clean her eyes and nose and let her sleep confortably in her own bed and yes she has her own comfy bed :( then i went out with my family and when we came back.... I saw her lying in the ground and her saliva was everywhere... And then... I cried a lot..... I wanna say this because i want all those people that are dealing with this problem with their cats that they need to cure them right away and dont waste anytime.... It was so sad because she was the last daughter of my first cat ever in my life and i was hoping she can save their family line but sadly they cant and will not.... And now im very sad.... Please forgive my english

She has a vet appointment in a few hours but I just can’t seem to get an answer for this question anywhere online…

Will a cat show an increase in white blood cells if they have infection? I’ve carried my kitty to 2 vets in the last 3 months with a bill of over $500. Neither vet has said anything about her nasal drip. Both did blood tests. She isn’t eating well so I think it could be because she can’t smell the food. I can’t believe I’ve got to take her back to the vet.

White blood cells fight off infections in your cat's body. If your cat has a high white blood cell count, that is a clear sign that something is wrong. I would also recommend getting some saline nose drops. Little Noses is in the children's section you can purchase almost anywhere. A drop or two in each nostril will help clear the nasal passage and make breathing easier. Sheryl at Revival.

They’re easily spread through direct contact, like touching and grooming, or when cats cough and sneeze on each other. Viruses can also live on surfaces cats share, like food and water bowls or litter boxes. People can spread them from one cat to another with contaminated hands or clothing.

Good morning Sheena. The most common way for the herpes virus to spread is through contact with discharge from an infected cat's eyes, mouth or nose.
