We are already seeing this. Some months ago KZbin started filling up with hundreds of fake "science" channels like "Space Voyager" that pump literally 10 videos every single day narrated by AI voices. All their videos are complete clickbait and have very similar titles and thumbnails. They also use the faces of Joe Rogan, Michio Kaku and Neil deGrasse Tyson over and over on every video to make the content seem more credible. Their channels all have very similar generic names and logos too. Absolutely horrible low quality content, or slop, as you said. It's only a matter of time for others to follow suit.

Same with history content, especially WWII. Horrid slop filled with myths and straight up lies with random photo slides and AI voiceover, pumping out dozens of videos every day and what's worst getting easily 300k+ views because algorithm promotes it What's sad is sometimes seeing in comments a guy who tries to point out "mistakes" in these videos, not realising that no, author didn't make mistake, there is no author, it's all AI generated slop. It's sad, there was a time when I went to youtube, I knew I could set a mood. If I wanted something mind-bending, I'd go to vsauce or PBS space. If I wanted to laugh my butt off, we had actual funny lolcows like Jason Genova and solid funny bloggers like NatesVlogs that I could count on to deliver. Phone pranking scene was booming. Nowadays, youtube is pure mud. No matter what you search for, you get totally unrelated results that algorithm thinks you gonna like. Half of them are the videos I already watched and clicked off. Any edgy comedy is totally off-limits. Channels that post daily dominate the algorithm - some of them are good, but posting this often quickly makes them run out of ideas and they resort to stealing or recycling old content. Every comment section if full of "Blud thinks he is..." and "We making it outa ... with this one." type comments - the only exception being smaller channels posting on deep topics. It's basically just as bad as cable TV now - just much cheaper. But it also doesn't have production budget of cable networks.

This whole situation makes me sick. Clearly not alone here. I’ve already noticed a bunch of AI crap clogging my feed. Especially the ones with the AI generated distorted celebrity faces and clickbait titles that are just flat out misinformation. I heard something about KZbin developing tools for people to make generated content including music made to sound like popular singers. It all feels so unnecessary and quite literally dehumanizing. Even though this channel is faceless, you’ve encouraged me to think more critically about what I encounter online and for that I am grateful!

Look at the bright side. At least we get to see and learn how to spot the diffrence gradually. The horrible stuff we are seeing now is so bad you can actually tell by looking at it. The things showing up right now looks so strange that you actually can belive it is some behinde the controls of the thing. Simply with to bad taste and/or not enough fine tuning yet to be automated into being invisible. Imagine being born into the world today? 5 years ago? Idk. And your parents leave you to be entertained with.... This. Have watched some Netflix recently. More mordern movies etc. What a pile of shit everything is.... I mean it has a charm to it. Some things are actually really good. Yet it seems increadbile what kind of budgets are used on special effects etc... For increadibly badly desinged plots and such. Windows 10, SnapChat, Facebook, Instagram, and X all have some type of AI thing now generated in them. Facebook is creepy as well how bellow some posts there will be a bunch of question suggestions to ask the AI that is related to the post, almost as if they're using the public for the AI to learn. This is usually for nefarious reasons like that old app called Candid where anyone was anonymous and you can ask groups anything and it turned out they shut Candid down because it was an AI learning tool for censorship once they gathered enough data and it was used directly by KZbin's algorithm to delete comments they don't want

We already have that in the science space. Kyle Hill made a video about that a while ago. AI scans transcripts of videos, writes its own script based on it, generates pictures on that basis and uploads videos that are complete trash - but thousands of them. Its not just a very big problem and will 100% cause another adpocalypse at some point, but it is also dangerous having so much scientific misinformation spread on KZbin and i expect similar concepts with all kinds of content, incl something like Reviews. (Cant wait for companies to buy masses of AI-Reviews for KZbin, similar to fake Reviews on Amazon and Co.) We are heading into the "Dead Internet" with lightspeed atm.

Was subbed to a channel that I thought was run by a 20-something young kid. It was about true crime and unsolved mysteries and such. The channel was pretty good but I thought the kid’s voice was not great. He had a mild speech impediment, talking through his nose. It seemed to be getting better so I figured the kid was improving. Then I came across another channel doing “road rage” shorts. These also had a youngish guy’s voice with a mild speech impediment. Not the same voice as the other channel, BUT it was definitely an AI because the same channel used a few different AI voices for their road videos. So I started paying closer attention to the mystery channel. It finally dawned on me that it was AI. The voice never seemed to falter, even though I _thought_ it was a young kid. It has to be AI and I actually got fooled. Eye opening.

There are AI-driven tools to generate tons of websites that cross-link with each other, fill them with AI-generated comments, and then spam real websites with comments with links to fake articles; all to fool Google's, Bing's, etc web crawlers into thinking that fake part of the web is real, and give it a high page rank. Stack Overflow used to appear at the top of any tech question/troubleshooting search, now you start to see it dropping to the second results page.

This is something not talked about nearly enough. The world lacks the infrastructure for everyone to pump out hundreds of pieces of AI content. Sure, you 'can' generate 1000 videos a day, but where is all of this going to be stored? Who is going to run it? How is that much information going to be transmitted? AI will first become the only content you can find on the internet. Then it will cripple the wider internet infrastructure. And then hopefully it'll somehow be regulated after it causes wide internet collapse. The "internet" isn't just a limitless concept. There's finite data limits to what we can accomplish, let alone the power and manufacturing needed to create that much storage and data transmission.

I recently cleared my youtube feedback and blocked channel history (the list of things you clicked "do not recommend" and "not interested" on). I do this from time to time when I'm feeling generous to give all the channels a fresh start with youtube's personalization algorithm. I've noted that the AI-generated content has not returned. That's a good thing. You can spot it a mile away. I publish on Medium (basically youtube for writers in terms of content visibility, monetization, and subject matter). We recently completely banned AI-generated content. We strongly discouraged it previously, and made it less visible. But it has recently been banned, and you'll get action taken against your account for putting it out there. It's very obvious when someone copy/pastes the output of a LLM and publishes it. We don't want that trash next to our writing. The only people copy/pasting that stuff are just putting out content pollution as you describe. It lowers the value of the work of legitimate writers. Writers on that platform are paid a ratio of each users' subscription that reads your work, so a flood of bad writing on a subject just lowers the ratio paid to the good writing. There are no ads. But Medium is much smaller than KZbin, and it's heavily curated by humans in addition to the algorithmic curation. They also go to lengths to block the IPs of data collection services that will feed our published writing to AI. It doesn't stop all of it, but it slows it down. That's obviously not an option on KZbin since your published content is feeding at least Google's generative AI models. Well, that's just my thoughts and observations on things. I honestly don't see the AI-generated content like I used to. At least the scripts sound original. I do still see some people using AI voice narration over stock footage. But they're usually small channels, with creators that are perhaps camera or mic shy. "Faceless" channels. Too much stock footage, though, will cause me to disregard or block a channel. Now what's going to piss me off is if I find out some of these faceless channels are stealing original essays from other writers putting out quality work.

The problem with A.I generated slop is I know who I want to watch and I watch them. Very rarely do I stray from that. Usually it's to look something up, how to do something for the most part. They can't trick me into watching it. I also run Ad Block so they won't get a dime off of me, and videos that KZbin somehow has bypassed it on I immediately close and watch elsewhere without the ads. Because like I said before KZbin, there's multiple ways to watch your videos without dealing with ads. All of which do no contribute to your metrics or the creators who made them. Keep fucking around. Anyway. While this won't be a problem for me it's pretty scummy for users who aren't in that habit. KZbin's issues of moderation and content monitoring is about to jump quite a number of levels in difficulty. In fact they won't be able to keep up because A.I, if tuned right, can create things in a fraction of the time real people can. With these tools becoming more accessible and refined, it's going to be harder to filter them out and watch/listen to real people.
