We are already seeing this. Some months ago KZbin started filling up with hundreds of fake "science" channels like "Space Voyager" that pump literally 10 videos every single day narrated by AI voices. All their videos are complete clickbait and have very similar titles and thumbnails. They also use the faces of Joe Rogan, Michio Kaku and Neil deGrasse Tyson over and over on every video to make the content seem more credible. Their channels all have very similar generic names and logos too. Absolutely horrible low quality content, or slop, as you said. It's only a matter of time for others to follow suit.

Any edgy comedy is totally off-limits. Channels that post daily dominate the algorithm - some of them are good, but posting this often quickly makes them run out of ideas and they resort to stealing or recycling old content. Every comment section if full of "Blud thinks he is..." and "We making it outa ... with this one." type comments - the only exception being smaller channels posting on deep topics. Then I came across another channel doing “road rage” shorts. These also had a youngish guy’s voice with a mild speech impediment. Not the same voice as the other channel, BUT it was definitely an AI because the same channel used a few different AI voices for their road videos. This is something not talked about nearly enough. The world lacks the infrastructure for everyone to pump out hundreds of pieces of AI content. Sure, you 'can' generate 1000 videos a day, but where is all of this going to be stored? Who is going to run it? How is that much information going to be transmitted? AI will first become the only content you can find on the internet. Then it will cripple the wider internet infrastructure. And then hopefully it'll somehow be regulated after it causes wide internet collapse. The "internet" isn't just a limitless concept. There's finite data limits to what we can accomplish, let alone the power and manufacturing needed to create that much storage and data transmission.

I had a flood of AI generated content on my feed about 9-12 months ago. It suddenly stopped. I recently cleared my youtube feedback and blocked channel history (the list of things you clicked "do not recommend" and "not interested" on). I do this from time to time when I'm feeling generous to give all the channels a fresh start with youtube's personalization algorithm. I've noted that the AI-generated content has not returned. That's a good thing. You can spot it a mile away. I publish on Medium (basically youtube for writers in terms of content visibility, monetization, and subject matter). We recently completely banned AI-generated content. We strongly discouraged it previously, and made it less visible. But it has recently been banned, and you'll get action taken against your account for putting it out there. It's very obvious when someone copy/pastes the output of a LLM and publishes it. We don't want that trash next to our writing. The only people copy/pasting that stuff are just putting out content pollution as you describe. It lowers the value of the work of legitimate writers. Writers on that platform are paid a ratio of each users' subscription that reads your work, so a flood of bad writing on a subject just lowers the ratio paid to the good writing. There are no ads. But Medium is much smaller than KZbin, and it's heavily curated by humans in addition to the algorithmic curation. They also go to lengths to block the IPs of data collection services that will feed our published writing to AI. It doesn't stop all of it, but it slows it down. That's obviously not an option on KZbin since your published content is feeding at least Google's generative AI models. Well, that's just my thoughts and observations on things. I honestly don't see the AI-generated content like I used to. At least the scripts sound original. I do still see some people using AI voice narration over stock footage. But they're usually small channels, with creators that are perhaps camera or mic shy. "Faceless" channels. Too much stock footage, though, will cause me to disregard or block a channel. Now what's going to piss me off is if I find out some of these faceless channels are stealing original essays from other writers putting out quality work.

Its sad. This is the problem with normalcy bias. Now that things like Windows recall and google search generative experience is announced. Now people finally panic because its in their backyard. If only people were proactive. But big tech keeps cutting deals with major publishers hoping to leverage this and anesthetising people to the long term dystopia big tech are laying the groundwork for. The whole backlash to astoturfed political correctness didnt come from institutions. It came from people with a cultural frame of reference from before the mid 2010s. Institutions and Silicon Valley didnt encourage that? No theyre weaponizing convenience to put the genie of human freedom and agency back in the bottle, and continue to sleepwalk people into a society that exists on the terms of the powerful. Nay. drowing out humanity in bot influencer content would their greatest counterattack.

I think there should be some regulation on a higher base (like by the US gov or EU not just individual platforms) that prohibits anyone from claiming copyright over any form of art made with the use of AI period. You can't claim it's yours, because it's not, no one can monetize it and subsequently it stops being promoted. That's the only way I can think of how to prevent this from going down the path of Cyperpunk or at the very least slow it down substantially.

A toolmaker or gunsmith is not responsible for what is done with their creations. Can they act 'irresponsibly'? Of course. But IMHO, Bluedrake is genuinely interested and 'enthused' with this AI revolution. Basically, if he doesn't build the tools, someone else will; misuse+abuse is inevitable. Historically, such broad misuse of new technologies is best-addressed by 'democratization' (broad use and distribution). Regardless, I can see benevolent usages of his toolset, and of AI/MI at large...

The problem with A.I generated slop is I know who I want to watch and I watch them. Very rarely do I stray from that. Usually it's to look something up, how to do something for the most part. They can't trick me into watching it. I also run Ad Block so they won't get a dime off of me, and videos that KZbin somehow has bypassed it on I immediately close and watch elsewhere without the ads. Because like I said before KZbin, there's multiple ways to watch your videos without dealing with ads. All of which do no contribute to your metrics or the creators who made them. Keep fucking around. Anyway. While this won't be a problem for me it's pretty scummy for users who aren't in that habit. KZbin's issues of moderation and content monitoring is about to jump quite a number of levels in difficulty. In fact they won't be able to keep up because A.I, if tuned right, can create things in a fraction of the time real people can. It's going to wind up being a nightmare for the consumer and the company. It's a pandora's box that should have been left alone.

@@someguy4405yes, it's much worser. KZbin became sterile when it started to ban conspiracy theories. One step further and it banned actual science because you see there is this theory that only lonely voices tell the truth. It's not entirely true. But it reflects certain truth about humanity. You don't need to know anything to go with the crowd, but you surely need to be sure to go against the crowd. It's not always the case in reality. But geniuses that we remember always were going against the mainstream ideas of the time. Like earth rotates around the sun. Guy as soon as I remember got burned for his beliefs. Only Russian psychologist that was mentioned in the list of greatest psychologists of 20th century died in gulag after he was infected with tuberculosis. He wanted to create science about kids and they called this science pedology. Of course he got into trouble with such name. Geniuses are always weird and got into trouble with general public because they don't adhere to what general public is. I read comments about Russian mathematical genius. He was relentlessly scolded because he doesn't look fashionably, he refused money, international award in science. But he is real genius. Crowd always is against geniuses. And when KZbin went down the rabbit hole of what general public wants, they killed it. They silenced truth

Speaking of KZbin being bad, as part of the video preview when you hover over thumbnails now, if there's a paid promotion, they'll pop up a banner that covers a third of the thumbnail that will take you to a page that is not the video you're trying to click on if you happen to click on it. The real people will then use computerized voices to prove they are real because the AI got so good at sounding real that you know a real person intentionally changed it. The next distinguishing gimmick will need to arise, until eventually you will never be able to know who is real, unless you meet your favorite youtuber in real life and watch them edit videos for you in person.

I'm a fan of HFY (humans, fuck yeah) stories, but the "AI" tools have caused a torrent of robotic assholes reading them in those uncanny valley voices that they are largely limited to. It's not just HFY, but a lot of fantasy/scifi story channels. When I do a search for "hfy" on KZbin, you will see a couple of _real_ narrators, but they are being pushed out by the robot assholes more and more. With these tools becoming more accessible and refined, it's going to be harder to filter them out and watch/listen to real people. Unfortunately, we're unlikely to get KZbin (or any platform) banning the production and uploading of this dribble. We're only starting to see the surface of the iceberg on this coming hellscape.
