Prodigy is just wonderful. I love it takes characters who weren't always the most well written or popular like Wesley and Chakotay and turns them into really compelling, likeable characters. Chakotay in particular is superb in Prodigy. On the other hand they've taken fan favourites like Janeway and Doctor and kept everything we loved about them just as it was, or made them even better. Season 2 of Prodigy is some of the best trek we've ever had.

Everything I ever wanted from a "new" Star Trek. Attention enough to lore, but never constrained by Canon. Every episode a solid story. Just, so well done.

I was skeptic when first clips of season 2 were shown with Voyager-A in dock, it looks chorme and plastic like a toy, but when full show was released, seems they polished CGI to highest notch, because ships look as good as in live action shows.

The ships and environments are amazing. The character models are not great. As pointed out with regard to the tribbles, hair looks clumpy and hard (I thought the tribbles looked like pinecones), the mouth movements don't really match the words being spoken, and eating is just all wrong.

Also pseudo Canon if you believe and read the autobiography of Janeway. She has a daughter that is half trill. Brief rundown on how this happen Janeway froze some of her eggs in Alpha quadrant before being lost in the Delta quadrant. When she got lost, and presumed dead, her family was given her eggs. Her sister had her spouse, who is a trill, fertilize one of the eggs and end up with the daughter. When they had contact with the Alpha quadrant through hirogen technology is when she first found out about her daughter, but was told it was her niece. When she got back to earth she was told the truth that her niece was her actual daughter. Also if you read the book she marries Chakotay.

You got the joke about Lurians /Morn from DS9 backwards. Morn was very talkative, so much so, other characters would even complain about how talkative he was. The joke was you never actually saw him speak on screen! The chatter joke to the Lurian pilot was a reference to that. If you noticed that pilot has never spoken.

You shouldn't doubt of your abilities to present such a show. You got it, continue on this track, Ellie. The magnificent picture of stars and gas cloud seems to have been inspired by a James Webb picture. Spzaking of continuity, they took the Mirror Janeway of the game ST online. Going down with the ship is not so much a Janeway rule as it is a naval/avitation tradition. The one responsible of the souls on board should depart last and if there are still other people on board, that means the captain must go down with the vessel.

With regard to Mirror Voyager, I have to theorize two possibilities: either this is a Terran Imperial Starfleet remnant, in exile from the space conquered by the Klingons and Cardassians, like the Imperial Remnant post-ROTJ in the Star Wars universe, or this is A mirror universe, not THE mirror universe, another mirror universe where the Terran Empire wasn't overthrown so early. There could be more than one, just as TNG showed us many very-similar-but-different quantum realities in the episode "Parallels" - which reminds me that I've long wondered if one or more of those 285,000+ alternate Enterprises were from the/a mirror universe!
@AzraelThanatos
@AzraelThanatos Ай бұрын
Considering everything else, this might also be borrowing the STO mirror timeline...though that doesn't explain why it's the Voyager-A there since Marshal Janeway wants HER ship and doesn't really give much of a damn about anything else with it.
@QBCPerdition
@QBCPerdition Ай бұрын
According to Aaron Waltke, after the final events in the Mirror Universe that we see in DS9, the Terrans overthrow the Klingon Cardassian Alliance and re-establish their own fleet with delusions of reconquering the Terran Empire. As to why it is the Voyager-A considering there wouldn't have been a Voyager to begin with...um...reasons.

Ellie, I am SO happy you got to comment on these BEAUTIFUL JC moments! We needed their shipper to make us JC supporters squeak with joy! I mean, Sean would do great, I'm sure. But you were made for the job. The emotional balance between Janeway and Chakotay was perfect! The line "I could never hurt you" made my heart break and release a warm ooze of affection towards them. ❤ I only wish I hadn't seen that episode thumbnail before watching this episode (or Wesley Crusher in the previous one 😅). Kinda spoilery, sweeties! Speaking of which, I link the Loom to Respers from Doctor Who's Episode "Father's Day". And fish that live in clouds and feed on lightning? That brings to mind a Christmas special episode with Matt Smith, "A Christian Carol". I love these crossovers! To wrap up, the character growth in this season, the visuals, the music, the scriptwriting, everything is sooo good. I think I wanted to comment on ten other things but it's a lot of episodes in one go, haha. You're great for doing Ups and Downs for this! ❤

Great job Ellie! For all the nervousness you alluded to, you're a natural! Once again we are much in agreement. Since Seán is doing the last 5 episodes, maybe you should consider writing up some of your thoughts Up and Down wise? 😀 I also got Star Wars vibes from Chakotay's pole. There have been several moments where I've been strongly reminded of other franchises (for one, Murf seems like a rubber goo version of Groot). I'm also glad to see Dal's behaviour annoyed someone else. The combination of laziness, ignorance and arrogance wore thin quickly. He was getting a little hard to take. Hope to see you back for more Trek Ups and Downs in the future! 🖖

I do admit that I was a bit down to see Chakotay be a hardass when he met the kids again, yet it was understandable given his grief of losing his crew. It was great that H-Janeway and the kids got him back to his kind loving self. I just love how he handled the Runaway through that underground maze of tunnels. XD That journey through various universes was quite a ride. I was surprise to hear about Captain Tuvix. I really did love Tuvix, and it's quite touching that there's a universe where he is still alive. As for Dal, well, the boy really did need to adjust and accept the fact that he is no longer a 'captain'. He was 'captain' in Season 1 from the start, given he just went and took the job. Yet now that he is part of Starfleet, he really need to understand that he has to start from the bottom and work his way to the top. Did he really think Starfleet will handle him command, a cadet? Glad he was knock down several pegs back to reality. Anyway, the last five episodes will be quite ride. :)

I don't see Dal as arrogant, it felt more like he was over compensating because ALL his comrades had found their place, a kind of "Fake it until you make it" attitude and a little imposter syndrome on Dal's part, so trying to take control of the Protostar was his way of hiding the fact he was way out of his depth and no idea how to behave not having parents to guide him.

I'm sure you'll overcome that with time though. Looking forward to seeing you more often!

23:24 I think that's the point that the 'mutated' tribbles don't look like the original

Replicators take a lot of energy, and given the small amount of antimatter they've collected so far (storms don't produce all that much), replicating a new shirt would be a serious waste of fuel. better to wait until they restore the protocore. I would not give Chakotay a down. After ten years, that's probably the best shirt on the ship.

Regarding the continuity error mention around 10:20, could it be Chakotay placed the comm bade back on Adreek's body so it could be used to beam it back onto the ship? I don't remember seeing the body being moved, yet it obviously was (ie the funeral scene), and this makes the most sense.

Also I do appreciate, as confused as I was at first, how they updated you on the status of the mirror universe and Terran empire post-DS9 despite the fact that Smiley was trying to improve things. They just can't catch a break.

In fairness to Dal he probably wasn’t aware of SAILING mechanics so hard port to him, and many, meant pull to port to turn the ship to port.

8:20 the down for Dal here is annoying because your frustration with him is literally part of his character arc.

Thank you for the information on the T-shirts and artist 🙏🏽. Personally, I thought the reason the tribbles looked different was because they were already subjected to genetic tampering by the Klingon scientist.

If you eat fish eggs, I don't know that the term vegetarian still applies. Pescatarian would be more apt, I think.

I thought maybe they were going with 'lacto ovo vegetarian'. Where folks will still use direct animal products like milk/eggs. Never considered fish eggs myself, but when you are stuck on an isolated planet you work with what you have.

@PacosTacoStands No such thing as lacto ovo vegetarian. All vegetarians eat eggs and dairy products. If one does not eat eggs and dairy products they would be called a vegan not a vegetarian. Pescatarians on the other hand are one step in the opposite direction which is fish and seafood. However, as long as the fish eggs weren't fertilized it's still a vegetarian diet.

Some of Dal's attitude change also has to do with what he sees when Crusher tells him to keep his eyes closed cause doesn't want them to see spoilers, another Dr. Wo reference

Does the appearance of the mirror universe Janeway and Voyager means that the Terran Empire somehow managed to return and destroy the Alliance?

I meant to comment this on the last U&D... The Infinity and the Loom really make me think of the Nebbichanedzar and Sentinels from the Martix (respectively). I haven't seen anyone comment on how Matrix-y some things look this season. ALSO, the Loom is also giving off major "Langolier" vibes in their premise. (ya know... Stephen King?)

Keep up doing these T/C these are a lot of fun! I do have a couple things to add - The Mirror Universe stuff is the biggest mis-step of the series for me. Massive continuity failure. Why is there a Terran Empire in the timeline of this show? It was established in DS9 that the Terran Empire fell and Humans were now slaves. Are they really telling us that the Terrans have regained power, and are able to build ships as impossibly powerful and advanced as the Voyager-A and in theory the Protostar? It was difficult enough to rationalize the existence of the Defiant in the DS9 Mirror scenario, I just cannot do the same here. That's my massive down for the season. Taken on it's own merits there are some cool things going on, but I just can't rationalize it. Beyond 'Mirror Mirror' and a limited amount of the DS9 Mirror stuff I just didn't enjoy any of those stories. 44:48 : I really hope that Andorian woman from Chakotay's crew isn't Jen from Lower Decks... I think this show takes place some time after? The timeline seems snarled; I hope someone has lined things up because it's not really making sense to me. She is not named as far as I know. 47:20 : Weyoun mentioned the Breen homeworld before, in 'The Changing Face of Evil' late in the series. “Our new allies are full of surprises, aren’t they?” he asks Damar. “You know those refrigeration suits they wear?” He elaborates, “I’m sure you’ve read the intelligence reports that say that their homeworld is a frozen wasteland. Well, it’s not. The climate on their planet is quite comfortable.” Damar responds, “Then why do they wear refrigeration suits?” Weyoun answers, “They won’t say. You see what I mean? They’re full of surprises.” 55:00 : Here we have the Agonizer torture devices... IT'S A KIDS SHOW, EVERYONE! REALLY!

I love you Ellie and love the way you’ve adopted the ST universe…. One thing I would ask is in your next ups and downs (and I hope there are more!) please vary from the phrase ‘take an up’? ‘Even the whales are evil!!’ 🖖

Wait, for the first down, Dal was sent to find the "plasma fruit", right? And I assumed that was the sparking plant he found. So touching it was what he was told to do? I watched the scene and thought it was rather careless of Chakotay to send someone up the hill alone, and not mention that's where the sandworms were.
