This was very informative. I’ve been a driver since 03 and I’m only putting a very small amount into my 401k . I find it intimidating because it’s all online and there’s no one to ask. I’m not a computer wizard.

Try to contribute enough to get the full match from the company, if there is a match. (That is free money to encourage you to save for your retirement.) Try to read about the basic ideas of mutual fund investing would be my advice. I would just invest in a very diversified fund. Is an s&p 500 fund if they have one. If you are getting a significant amount of dollars in there, I would consider finding someone you can start an IRA with. Someone who can teach you about the basics of investing. If they don't talk to you like they are a teacher then find someone else.

@@jamisojo no match unfortunately. we do have a really good pension though (full time and part time). we also have a roth 401k option, as well as pre tax. there is an s&p 500 fund as well.

I don't know if it is still the same as when I was a driver back in the 90's, but neither UPS or the Teamsters contributed to my 401-k. It was all on me.

I would consider starting an emergency fund for the "little projects" rather than drain your retirement account over and over. After tax contributions sound like a Roth account. You might want a nice big one when you are retired. 😁

Really enjoying the content but tax brackets work a bit differently than how you explained. Any income from ~$40-85k is taxed at 22%. If you made $87k, only that last ~$2k you earned would be taxed at the higher tax bracket (24%).
@jamisojo3 жыл бұрын
Agreed. That is correct. And the numbers would all change if you're married.
@derrickmd184 жыл бұрын
i have a roth 401k at ups because i'll rather pay taxes now and the growth is tax free vs a pre tax 401k where you dont pay taxes now but when you take it out you pay taxes on the growth and what you put in.
@chris707man4 жыл бұрын
Exactly, I have been trying to figure out how to change my contribution to the Roth, you can only contribute $6k correct?
@derrickmd184 жыл бұрын
@@chris707man yeah the 6k is federal law for all 401k. You have to go into the prudential retirement portal and change it from pre tax to roth. If you want to do over 6k you can do mutual funds yourself. Plus if you are married you can do 12k instead of 6k in the 401k
@chris707man4 жыл бұрын
I changed it up yesterday 6% 401k, 8% Roth

@c.d.95084 жыл бұрын
You can contribute $19,500 a year in a 401k regardless if you do a roth or pre tax. The $6,000 limit is for an IRA. Which is different than a 401k.

I always ring the doorbell adter delivering a package(s)! That’s what I’ve been taught and who isn’t happy when they know/hear that their package just arrived?!
@Islam4ever20062 жыл бұрын
@@christianestrella9690 Actually, there are many who aren't happy when their door bell rings or get a knock on their door. Dogs start barking, which many don't like it. Children wake up and mama is about to lazer beam the driver with her eyes, making him/her ashes mentally. There may be other reasons, but I do non-UPS deliveries and these are some of the reasons customers have noted on the app themselves. I just got hired for a seasonal position and I'm looking into what UPS employees have to to say about their experiences.

It's a Federal offense to put anything in the mailbox. Only your mailman is allowed to, unless you personally give someone you know authorization to put something in there.

I don't have a lot of experience with the 22.4, sorry I'm not able to help.
@davidjoe96394 жыл бұрын
It's the only way to become a driver. Eventually UPS will get rid of the RPCD classification. 22.4 make $7 less than a RPCD at top rate. So UPS will want to save money.
@chris707man4 жыл бұрын
David Joe are they under contract to work under a certain amount of hours?
@davidjoe96394 жыл бұрын
@@chris707man No, 22.4 are a fulltime position with no time limitations. They don't get 9-5 protection. They're technically supposed to be half inside work and half driving. UPS is taking advantage of them since they get paid less than a RPCD. It's such a stupid thing since 22.3 exist. Unfortunately now, all drivers have to start off as 22.4 and bid for a RPCD later.
