Depends on what your goals are. If you want a better starting wage, and aren't determined to stay long, pick Amazon. If you want to be a grunt, and are willing to put some serious YEARS of hard back work in to rank up seniority and pay, go to UPS. There's definitely some tradeoffs. I made $5 more per hour starting at Amazon, but I didn't get union benefits. On the other side, I made $14/hr at UPS and had to pay a $200 initiation fee + 2.5x my hourly rate biweekly towards the union, but I didn't get any benefits til I hit 9 months. It would have taken me 5 years at UPS as a package handler to make what I did at Amazon as a new hire. But you get that Union protection and benefits though. So you have to outweigh the pros and cons. Also, Amazon had way more updated modern tech, heavy machinery, and automation to assist with the flow compared to UPS, where our facility was outdated from the 1980s, and nowhere near up to speed to accommodate a 2021 covid online marketplace economy. They just expect you to work harder at UPS since they don't want to spend the $$$ shutting down their centers and updating to new efficient tech lol.

As long as you show up every day, do your job, be safe, you will have a good career here. Know your supervisors. Communication one of the most important parts to success here. Attendance is probably the most important thing other than safety, but Communication is up there because if you talk to your supervisors and don't abuse your lack of attendance, you're more likely to get time off. Secondly, you're more likely to advance if you talk to your supervisors. You want management or become a driver, talking to your supervisors is your fast pass to advancement. Pluses and minuses to go with management, but it can be a good fit for some. Many drivers make $100k per year and I hear pilots do even better. I'm now permanent. The job schedule is great for me, with me pursuing a culinary degree. I know they pay for school, but I haven't talked to them about it. Full benefits after 1 year, a strenuous but small work schedule, decent pay, and great coworkers... this I'm okay with. I can overlook the torrential rains of Seattle, the sore feet and muscles, when I know this is what I need to be doing at this point in my life. Can't complain. My future lies in my dreams, and UPS is allowing me to pursue them better than a life-sucking graveyard job cleaning restaurant hoods that dead ends your pay at 16 an hour unless you're a supervisor, then you cap at 24.

Even if nothing is wrong with the plane you still have to stand by and wait until the plane has taken off and has flown out a certain distance before you are allowed to go. Some folks have had to stay anywhere from 2 to 3 hours past thier shift due to unloading/loading planes due to mechanical breakdown. My brother works feeder at UPS Grande Vista in Los Angeles. 10 years ago when my dad had dementia, my brother and his wife had my dad sign over all of his properties to themselves. My kids and I are about to become homeless because my brother and his wife took out a $350,000 loan on this house and never paid it back. My father bought this home in 1957 and this home was intended to be sold after his death and the funds distributed to my sister and brothers, and myself. New owner says that we have until June 6, 2019, to get out.

Neither can I. I work at an airline. Loading frieght, boxes, US Mail, Human remains, luggage, everything you can imagine with backs, knees legs and feet in the belly of aircraft. OT is required as the Operation calls for. Sometimes mandatory OT. Weather , mechanical delays, etc You go home when the flights go out. Even if that means working to 2-3am due to weather, maintenance. Now you definitely get OT, especially on Holidays. But UPS guys crack me when they complain about working weekends or having to stay until 10-11pm. I'm not any would make it American ,United or Delta Airlines. Working 5-6 flights a day. A flight coming in from Lima, Peru with 20k in bags, mail, frieght and then going out in an hour and a half with 17k going to L.A. bags, msil, frieght, etc We're not at $40/hr, but we have hit the $30/mark and unlimited flight benefits anywhere in the world.

My building in Delaware have hired over 20 drivers who don’t know how to drive manual. I think they are not making it mandatory anymore. We had a driver who couldn’t drive a manual. The supervisors had us switch his load to another truck. They can’t force you to drive a stick.

I World there... the Worst job ever. The air is so polluted. Dust everywhere. It is so hard to breath. Sorting it's a nightmare! Packages fall on you and you get buried in them. Cant walk safely on their sorting isles. The belts NEVER work. And boxes keep coming at you at high speed and that's how you get injured by those boxes...
