Hi Tory, I have been binge watching your videos for a long time now and don't ever comment, lol. This one I have to say really floored me. You are creating some otherworldly lines here and really bringing something new and fresh to the guitar world and jazz in general. NOBODY is doing that nowadays. All of these guys that are the toast of the town and getting featured regularly on Rick Beatos platform are just rehashing the same ole same. There's an intellect and a technique at work here that im afraid most of these "You Tube stars" will not be catching up to any time soon. I think you will have to be protected, and therefore I am offering up my services as bodyguard. For payment you can throw me some riffs here and there to gnaw on, while I play catch up! I'm enjoying being here before your channel "blows up" and then everyone is gonna want a piece. Thanks, I actually used to really focus on Keith Jarrett's trio playing, I mean like particularly the standards records.... It's just the way that he lyrically improvises while comping, it's a very interesting conversation with oneself... Sometimes that bleeds over into this kind of thing, although this is coming from more of a synthesizer perspective, something like that, even though it's not a synthesizer...

Wow - thanks for covering THIS Stern tune! I remember buying this when it came out and it turned my head around. I regret that Mike doesn't do more stuff in this style, he's only got 3 or 4 really that have this kind of "enigmatic/fun" feeling - maybe a few more. And of course your take is stunning. Has Mike heard this? Next time I see him I will definitely mention you. He plays here in NYC all the time...super approachable cat too.

Thanks, yeah, I've been trying to figure out some gimmicky way to do both at the same time, including having pre-prepared videos to play along with which I interact with live on stage, etc Loopers etc... I think I could probably get away with using a looper and then kind of switching back and forth intermittently

My favorite Stern fusion tune done in a cool new way. 5:07 reminds me a bit of Steve Vai’s “Attitude Song” lick interpolating 80s King Crimson ala Frame by Frame - prescient given Vai’s role in that upcoming Beat tour. I dig this version a lot. Great tones and playing as usual.

Yeah, that whole sort of contrapuntal interlocking two-part stuff is definitely of the crimson flavor... And if I'm not careful I will always throw in a crazy tapping lick, something reminiscent of Steve Vai or Greg Howe or Holdworth

3:23 I was going NOOOOO, don't play "guitar" licks! haha Wow, I actually recognize this tune which is wild because I am totally not into jazz but I do remember hearing this played by someone before. Can't recall who. Might have been Chick Corea or Shawn Lane or MIke Stern. Not sure. really cool solo stuff. That melody is so odd hitting on the 4 every time just before the downbeat or however you want to subdivide the time. Really love that fake steel string stuff! That is so cool. You should throw that in every solo! heheh It's so atypical of electric guitar except it has been done by many and some use that string bender thing and some just use fingers but you really make it sound interesting and the tapping is what opens up bends that would be pretty much impossible just bending the notes you pick normally, I think. ANyway, nice stuff!!

You do a very nice Dave Weckl. You inspired me to buy a FGDP 50. Six months wait time in Japan no less. Three months to go. I saw Mike Stern with Dennis a few weeks ago in Tokyo. The fire burns low. These days he's best playing very quietly, even more so than this. I found it touching. It took me a while to get used to this approach but now I'm totally digging it.

I loved and enjoyed (is that redundant) how you (as always it seems) you made this your own, but at the same time you echoed the head with accelerations and decelerations, but that seems fairly indigenous to you anyway. You're doing these mind blowing things so casually, and having so much fun doing it!

Brecker and Stern played a lot of notes over the tune live .... I'm kind of doing that plus doing other sort of lyrical or weird pedal steel things.... That's kind of how I see it

@@TorySlusher Brecker is a monstah! Were you rolling with the 1987 gig with Brecker on EWI? May I be honest? Your playing is much more interesting than Mike Stern's. But he wrote that tune! I saw him play it back in, yikes, 86 or so, in Hahvahd Squayah, at a little joint called "Regattabar". Also saw him on the Boston Common Summer concert with Miles Davis in the mid 80s. But sister you are doing such honor to these tunes, taking them to new places. I admire you greatly!

Danny Gatton is why I own so many different tele pups. But I did not hear that style first time thru at all. Not like I was looking for it. I don't look for shit, but it is welcome to stab me in the eyeball if it can. This is good Tory. I would not put it up against anything style wise personally myself. Influence is it's own monster. I guess when you chord pluck it shows, but I love that so much. Dabbling on the strings with whatever fingers. Yeah, just count me in.

Mike Stern I was at 55 bar Christopher street New York two time a week look Mike play in that small Wonderfull bar as many other great musician, I learn a lot from him very humble person interact with him including Leni Stern his wife wonderful people, those time are gone ..... many great musician I meet at 55 Christopher street New York , nice play TORY I love always your play I moved on with fusion and standard looking for my music expression , then when I put apart the music theory and I start play music with felling , star to frase the note till today .

Is open as usual long a go o had the pleasure of to meet Chick Corea wonderful person Same night Dave Wekel Jhon Patitucci they where play acustic band since Frank Gambale wan not present but was a night I will never forget. Litte less respect for Al De Meola is great guitar player and composer but not to friendly….lol But is ok Alex Acuna was enough see him playing that night.

I don't know, I think I can hear certain pitches in order to tune up, but perfectly perfect pitch I don't think so... The ear training stuff I think is.... just keep doing it over and over again until you know the intervals and different chords just by hearing it on the fingerboard, just an experience thing I think

So while it may sound as though the hi-hat is sequenced, believe it or not it's just how even I've been playing this particular pattern, I couldn't be a bit more lackadaisical or less robotic about it, and it might sound a little more human, but honestly I don't mind a bit of the electronic feel, as long as I'm using acoustic samples I'm pretty happy with it... I mean, if I was playing with a trio someone else will be playing drums all the time anyway...
