That was spectacular, Tori. I'm 62, and am glad I learned like "70's, 80's, 90's rock stuff, but because of learning to play like that, I found it difficult to learn anything different...as an example, I played in a country band for a while, and was tasked with playing the solo in Liza Jane from Vince Gill, and really struggled with it...had to do hours and hours to eventually get it in the ball park, and it's still not exact, but I think anything I'm doing in that solo is a very good alternative. There's another guy that I've watched, and I don't even know his name, but he has an approach similar to yours, except he does his deal with his fingers mostly, and very rarely utilizes his thumb as far as the picking hand goes...to me, it's what ever the best way a person can do it, and get it done well. I'm bringing him up, because to me, you are every bit as good, if not, better than he is (just an opinion, of coarse). Now I'll get off of that, and get back to your left hand mode of operation, because I think it would be easier for me to apply that to my playing, because I grew up doing finger style stuff, like Paul Simon's tunes, so got accustomed to playing guitar with my thumb and fingers when not using a pick...I think I"ll start with a video of yours, the Way beyond just tapping one, and maybe slow it down to see what you're doing and not have my brain lock up, hahaha! Thanks for posting your progress, and hope you and yours are doing great. Editing in: It appears that isn't your video...you are in it, but it's a guitar teacher that is promoting you, hahaha! Well, I guess I'll watch it, but...ha!

Clean sprightly picking, as always. And the Holdsworth/Johnson lineage is the kind of thing you don't really have to tell anyone about, unless it is to direct the attention of the underinformed to those players. I've often dreamed about having what I like to call "dash drums". Imagine a pair of membrane switch strips mounted on the steering wheel, *between* "10 and 2", so that hands can be placed *at* 10 and 2 (as recommended). The membrane strips connect to a unit that one's car audio system plugs into, and allow one to play the drums along with the music while waiting for a light change, parked, or other *safe* moment. I mean, as great a kick drum tone as vinyl/leather-covered seats can provide, they get bloody HOT; too big a price to pay for a kick drum sound. And the dashboard and driver door have their sonic moments, too, but they make lousy snares and cymbals. Having an entire drum kit at your fingertips would make a country drive wonderful!

Thanks, well I was kind of going for that... Allan's whole approach for me is kind of like one way of orchestrating a certain type of tune, or any tune, it's like a matched set of sounds. So you can be doing that and then slip into a whole other thing, etc... like the whole thing about Miles Davis talking about "mood in music".... The hidden aesthetics to the art form, knowing who to cop from etc and what....

Is the synth used for the tone?
@TorySlusher4 ай бұрын
Which one? All of that lush clean stuff is using the gk3, but it's not a synthesizer, it's like a hexaphonic magnetic thing...
Could you describe how you made the clean tone in the GP-10 ? I'm guessing chorus and something else? Which guitar model did you use?
@TorySlusher8 ай бұрын
Okay, so I think I started with one of the presets that was already on there... Then I switched the pickups to modern bright humbucker bridge position, and then I think I have like a direct signal blended with some type of amp? There's a very slight chorus, I was imitating all of the multistacked delays... So there is a bit of a reverb and then the delay setting is where the action is, there's just like a big Long trail of multi delays... And then you know, just the right amount of compression so that it has more of a keyboard like attack and decay, the reverb is what is really adding kind of the pad ambience, aside from the delays, which kind of generate the sound if that makes me sense...
