HPNA was a DSL like technology from the 1990s. We used it and bridged it on to phone lines in the basement of condos and apartments. Distance limited to 2000ft. It has since morphed a few times becoming something that it only used in a house. DSL made more sense for a cluster of condos sharing a common phone room. We would also use SDSL extenders to reach hubs in closets and bridge the service onto the phone line. No DSL filter needed.

The best bet would be to barrel and terminate the end of the cable coming from the cable company to keep ingress from getting in it. Worst case scenario put a barrel on it if you don't have terminators. But yes this HPNA costs cable companies thousands of dollars in wasted costs by causing service calls before it is recognized what the cause is.

@@thebasiccablechannel7464 what's worse these days are the wifi powerline devices, wifi extenders and the ultimate return band destroyer - ethernet over coax. it would be great to see some new videos from you!

Can you use the ICFR data from PNM-capable cable modems to help track this stuff down? I imagine the CM's would be doing a fair bit of time-adjust to try and compensate for that..modems upstream from the source would have lower adjustments than those downstream of it...? Maybe..? Is there a way to track this stuff down that doesnt require a field-visit?

Not that I have found. Usually the home with the backfeed has already switched to another interner provider as well. But I imagine a high CM ICFR reading from a home with competitor backfeed would have very bad CM ICFR. Along with the other homes in the node with bad ingress.

any way you could do a video on using ingress expert?

My modem has no upstream connection, the upstream light is blinking but never solid. i have 100 + ping whenever i play games. plz help
@thebasiccablechannel74644 жыл бұрын
If your upstream light is blinking it generally does not have an upstream connection thus you wouldn't be able to run a ping test. Unless that model of modem flashes from communication. There is a lot of factors that can contribute to your high ping test. 1. The server you are pinging. 2. Noise on cable plant in the neighborhood but only a cable tech can look into that. 3. Faulty modem or computer. 4. Over WiFi....
