I’m a musician who comes from a family of glasshouse workers. Everyone on both sides of my family worked in a factory making beer and juice bottles. Our vacations consisted of going to the Steuben glass factory or to Sandwich Massachusetts and their glass factory. We had an entire curio cabinet full of the radiation glass. Absolutely beautiful craftsmanship.

Depending on the COE also influences the price, raw borosilicate uranium glass goes for roughly $400 a lb. As a glassblower it is hard to find, we don't mind recycling broken uranium glass

I’m a boro lampworker and I remember when the old nasa uranium borosilicate tubes were still floating around and they would go for as high as 800 a tube for 50mm x2mm tubes. Haven’t seen any though since the early 2000’s a few companies do make uv tubing and rod and it’s about $100-$120 a Lbs now if I’m not mistaken. I absolutely love glass lol.

Thanks for the video Shane. I have 2 green glass vases and some green wine glasses that were from my great-grandmother and i heritated them through my grandmother. I will definitly try to find out how they react under UV. I don't think it is uranium glass because it is less green in colour than what you see on pictures. But you never know. When it comes to "green" colour it is surprising how toxic that colour must have been in the past. Absinth was a yellow liquour and got coloured by toxic blue copper sulfate to make it green. Wallpaper was painted green with Scheele's green, an arsenic salt and green glass was made with uranium... i keep it with white... Oh no, that was made with lead carbonate... Yellow ? No, toxic cadmium sulphide. OK red then? Sorry, cinnaber or mercury sulphide, also toxic... Blue ? Prusian blue, a cyanide salt... Or Lapis lazuli but that comes with a price tag... Colours were toxic in the old days !!!

I have several pieces of this glass made by Fenton. I have one cabinet with a LED UV bulb and it gets turned on at night and we use the glow as a night light. We have found pieces and sets at garage sales. I scored a Uranium Glass oil lamp for $2.00 about two weeks ago and it was appraised for $300.00. Not a bad investment for $2.00.

Careful with 365 NM. It can cause other glass to glow as well that is not UG. I would recommend 395 for any hunting. If your end goal is just, "cool glow glass" then it doesn't matter lol. I love your main video topics but, when I seen this one you earned a sub on that alone. I'm a treasure hunter to the bone but, my treasure usually glows. God bless and if your ever wondering about UG or vaseline, vaseline tends to be yellow and older in general, then I always welcome a challenging question or research project.

Radioactive red Fiestaware (uranium in the glaze) I noticed in the US has a following too and some pieces bring good money. Other manufacturers used uranium in there glazes too, but people just think of Fiestaware when you mention radioactive glaze. Also uranium glaze is a lot more radioactive. People are not into Uranium glazed products here in Australia, but uranium glass is popular.

That's not good. Hope no one was hurt. We lost everything in a fire when I was 21, we were safe up the road phoning sister in Europe for her birthday (back when you had to book overseas calls and we didn't have a phone at home). We would normally have been sound asleep. My brother came home and found house on fire tried to get into our room but was beaten back by the heat. We got back just as brigade was telling him there was no way for them to enter building and look for us. I ran up to the group of neighbors and could hear him talking to the brigade. I called out and he literally leaped about 5 feet into the air 🤣. Lost everything except the clothes we were wearing. The salvation army looked after us for 2 days. They do some great work.

@@kiwibob223 I woke to the fire. Didn't lose any people but had to bury six animals including my service dog. I escaped Hollywood style,... crashing through a window out in to the snow because both exits were impassable. I had to go a mile down the road like that just to get help.... helluva way to meet the new neighbors, covered in burns and soot standing at their doorway in my underwear! It is an experience I wish on noone, glad you got through it, too.👊💪

If you are still reading comments on this video - I just had an epiphany. Been collecting beads for years. Love Czech glass. Bought a lot of vintage from an Ebayer. Got a blacklight and my jewelry stash lit up. Over the years probably spent 40,000 on beads. Made a lot of jewelry also. Also, have over 4 lbs of bugle beads that light up. Bought them in kilos and had to wash all of them. Probably about 40 lbs Czech glass. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

U235? That is the bomb material. Unlikely as that is such a very small part of the U family. More likely the MUCH more plentiful U238 which is non-fissile although it does have some 235 through decomposition. They exist together in nature but are VERY hard to separate, or you can just blast your 238 with neutrons and get straight to the plutonium bits.

Wow...I dug the video right up to the point where you said it's the same uranium as in nuclear weapons. Big swing and a miss. The various manufacturers used uranium oxide(along with various mineral additives to produce different colors), and NOT weapons grade uranium 235. For those who wish to see it mad3, look on yt channel Nile Red....he does a video making uranium glass.
@KleshGuitarsOfficial2 жыл бұрын
Weapons grade uranium is absolutely derived from the element Uranium
@FenianAn1mal2 жыл бұрын
@@KleshGuitarsOfficial this is somewhat true. By definition weapons grade material needs to be primarily 80%+ u235....the remainder being uranium. The distinction here being u235 is an isotope OF uranium....big difference. Interesting side note connected with this glassware and the manhattan project : they found uranium scarce to make it because of the vast amount of it needed for just one bomb. The little boy bomb (gun type weapon) needed approx 65kg of u235 to function. Since u235 makes up less than 1% of natural uranium....
@boarbot78292 жыл бұрын
