I like to skate alone at night too, and your video made me remember something that I like to think sometimes. It is that when you do something, you may say you are somehow connected with someone you don't even know. Maybe people that live somewhere else that are skating under the same nightsky or maybe listening to the same musics, chilling in their own way, or maybe people who used to skate there in another time, just where you are passing by. It's kinda magical, isn't it? In a possible way. Being virtually connected with people you don't even know.

Like a sueprhero on skates reminding people what it looks like to feel alive again just through simplicity alone. Theres nothing more simple than skating down the night street empty and quiet, flying by as if you were a dancing spirit. I felt this on friday night as well skating in my area (relatively unsafe) but i just felt so inspired after the meetup and i wanted to just skate and be free from concern. @@motorlearningaddiction6284 thanks for your response! Im a fairly social guy when im having fun and feel a sense of passion, but over the years my depression and anti social tendency gotten the best of me, so i sort of needed an excuse to meet people. Im glad to be able to meet people and be exposed to the skate community, everyone seem so humble and kind in this community i had notice so far! @@motorlearningaddiction6284 Question for you: What kind of wheels/skates do you prefer?
@motorlearningaddiction62843 жыл бұрын
@@cindyreed187 I only have 1 pair of skates, which are my powerslide hardcore evos. I have an accessory navicular, so I have to wear boots with heat moldable shells. Wheels I prefer 84A hardness for any type of skating. I find that 85a is just a tiny bit more slippery than I like, though 85a are the standard hardness, besides 90a which is much more slippery and 82a which are way too grippy. To find the in-between hardnesses you'll have to really go out of your way to find them. Size preference depends on what I'm doing. Slalom I use 76/80/80/76, on the street I'll use either 90 or 110. If brand was your question, then I don't have enough experience to talk about them because I haven't owned enough pairs of skates to state a fair opinion. For wheels, you really just have to try them out to know what works for you. Generally, whatever hardness you start with is what you're going to be used to using. You won't feel much difference until you skate on different surfaces, skate faster, or perform slides. If you're buying new skates, I wouldn't put too much emphasis on the hardness or size or number of wheels unless you know the kind of skating you're going to be doing. However, if you're doing slalom, then I would definitely go for a 4x80 frame so you can banana rocker them. Anyways, I would focus primarily on finding a boot that is comfortable on your feet for long periods of time. I had to try multiple boots until I found one that suited my foot shape and skating needs. Boots can really hurt if they don't fit and it can be a real bummer when you just want to have fun on your wheels.

Hi - GGP is closed off to vehicle traffic so you are free to go there any time and the road is yours. In SF, there is the Friday that begins at 9pm on the street island across from the ferry building and the Tuesday night skate that begins I believe at 7:30pm at the Aquatic park parking lot. As for smaller groups, I am sure there a bunch, but they are likely more exclusive unless you know them. The Friday night skate is a large group, ~13 mile skate, hills and all, many stops. Tuesday night skate is a much smaller group, but still around 15-20 people, completely flat, faster pace/less stops, goes from aquatic park to oracle park and back. Check out the sf friday night skate facebook group for more info.

Awesome! Welcome to the skate club! It's just a bicycle tail light I got off Amazon. It came with a clip so I just clipped it to my backpack strap. Here's the link: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00XJU7L9Q/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it came with a headlight that I wanted.

New sub here, just be careful skating at night. It might be dangerous for you to skate alone at night

Welcome! And thank you - it is definitely safer in a group. In this video, I was actually running late to the Friday night skate so I had to play catch-up with the group.

@motorlearningaddiction62843 жыл бұрын
@@snakeplissken2428 It can be from a visibility standpoint. Sometimes it's hard for people to see or hear me coming. So I always wear my lights when I'm out to avoid accidents.

Is this the Friday night skate in San Francisco? I want to go but worry the routes have steep hills. Is that the case?
@motorlearningaddiction62842 жыл бұрын
Yes it is the friday night skate in SF. It does have some steep hills. The most difficult uphill is in the beginning, Fort Mason. Besides that, there are some other relatively steep ones but they are short blocks. Going up is not so much the issue because there are plenty of breaks for people to catch up. Going down is the more challenging portion of the skate where you really have to know how to break or decelerate. If the hills are too intimidating, but want to test out a skate with a flat route, try the tuesday night skate.

Are longboards welcome? 😆
@motorlearningaddiction62843 жыл бұрын
Yes, actually! Any wheels are welcome. Bicyclists and scooters are asked to stay behind skaters because of safety. The braking distance for skaters is a lot longer than people with disc brakes that can nearly stop on a dime.

@motorlearningaddiction62843 жыл бұрын
Definitely! It just restarted as SF went back to the red zone about 2 or 3 weeks ago. Last year was a bit rough due to covid guidelines and curfews.

Isit just me or does anyone else find it frustrating that one foot is dominant and the weak foot never seems to keep up? Usually its the left foot for most. Isit possible to even get it as good as your right?
@motorlearningaddiction62843 жыл бұрын
It is very frustrating! Everyone has a dominant foot or side that they do things on. I personally do not like learning things on my non-dominant, but it's the only way to learn. To be honest, I don't like using my non-dominant because I suck at it. On the other hand, as long as I force myself to use my non-dominant, I'll be that much more versatile. It's totally worth it.

I think you may have misinterpreted. I go to the FNS to skate. So, did I want to miss out on 45 minutes of the 3 hour skate - no, nobody would. But again, I wanted to make sure people didn’t get left behind; therefore, I stayed by his side and we eventually caught up to the rest of the group, together. Thanks for watching :)
Hey fellow night skater.. I like your video just.... can you back away from the mic a bit?? Your forced whisperyvoice gets a tad annoying. I should not want to fall a sleep watching a skate video
@motorlearningaddiction62844 жыл бұрын
I didn't intend to force a whisper. I recorded the audio late at night and was trying to keep my voice down to avoid waking others. It was my intention to make it a calming video, hence the music choice. Thanks for watching!
