Breaking down the complex to the simple and then building up the simple to the complex is a useful tool employed by many sketchers, but your mastery of this principle and your exposition of same is unparalleled on youtube. Many thanks for your teaching.

I'm a bit late to your tutorials, so it's just as well that you've produced a TIMELESS series of invaluable tips. That idea of the fulcrum and how balancing can be achieved with different elements is mind blowing, yet so simple when you explain it that way. I hadn't considered that before, so I'll be paying more attention and trying this out. A key takeaway from this video is your statement "SIMPLE to COMPLEX" and your FLEXIBLE APPROACH to design and composition so that the drawing process may be RELAXING and ENJOYABLE

Alphonso. Thank you for posting these videos. I especially enjoy the urban sketching ones who've done, although all of your stuff is really good. hope you enjoy your summer. :) i missed your videos. once again i want to thank you for the efforts and to say that you really are the best. whatever drawing tutorials i am able to find in the internet, it's your words and descriptions that immediately come to my mind in the process of watching them, even though they usually have authors' explanations, and then everything becomes clear. to my mind - this fact alone says a lot...
@alphonsodunn9 жыл бұрын

***** well, "some" is not the word: it's the best guidance :) you deserve tons of praise, and on my side it's touch-typing - not taking much time to say something good. btw, i'm drawing\painting (or rather trying to when i have time) for my personal pleasure, and i clearly see that the basics you are talking about are applicable to painting as well: perspective, composition, light and shades, shapes, texures and so on. )

These are very helpful ways of thinking about composition, something I don't think was ever really taught in my art education. I would have liked to see a an insert of your reference photos in the upper left corner of the screen when they are off camera you are drawing them. All very useful in sketching out scenes that have a lot of details that would otherwise overwhelm.

For anyone serious about art listen to this video. I havnt seen any other channel that goes in depth about the process of learning to draw by learning to observe. Everyone wants to skip to drawing characters and imaginative work which is all great stuff (its what inspires people to create)- but its so important to learn to draw from life as you build up references in your head and you won't need to rely on reference photos for every little thing.
