Before this, the town was nothing more than a small village housing 1700 3. Manchester boomed because of the textile manufacturing demand 4. People came to the city because of the promise of work 5. Disease, famine and death came in mounds as houses and cellars became overcrowded 6. Life was miserable and living conditions were shocking 7. Cholera was one of the main diseases spread through water 8. Many things were shared

my great great granfather worked and lived in these slums [ i live in the west of ireland] in the earley to mid 1800s, he worked as a builder labour and stole brricks and sand wvery day comming home from work, he built a 2 bed house that he assumed was waste land on the subburbs of manchester and rared his family keeping them away from disease ect,,, no running water or toilets but that wasnt about them times i suppose, the house is now in central manchester as the city grew out over the centuries and now is a listed building, i was lucky enough to visit it and get inside with my wife last summer, just a bit of usless information for anyone that likes history

americansarebeggers americansarebeggers At the same time in mid 19th century British came to Yokohama and built a magnificent mansion in front of the central pier. It exists still today housing the consulate general for Yokohama. Actually it was once abolished but the city mayor of Yokohama asked to restore and proposed the shopping center for British goods. The street in front of this mansion is overcrowded with Chinese and other Asian people. The problems are follows. First I have never met any British ladies here. Second the British designs are so popular such as Burberry and Aquascutum here and Asia but they don't know. Third Japan may be deserted and imported workforce from Asia Then, the crime rate here skyrockets.We want to move to next to British Isles.

Let's face it folks, life for the working man and woman was a shitty existence until quite recently, within living memory in fact, or so my 93 year old Mum tells me.

Life for the working man and woman in sweat-shop countries such as Thailand, Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Philippines, PR China, India, Myanmar, Vietnam and indeed the USA and the UK where trade unions have been decimated is still "shitty". Engels came from Manchester; he was the son of a mill-owner and recorded what he saw; and what he thought about he saw and recorded formed the beginnings of communism along with Karl Marx. Life had improved in the UK from 1945 to around 1979 until Thatcher turned up.
