We use to swim in a water storage tank on my uncle’s ranch that was fed by a windmill. The tank supplied water to a stock tank that was about twice as big as your tank. The cows and horses would sometimes peak over the top of the storage tank when they would hear us swimming. Since I live in Florida farm country, I planned on a stock tank pool for this year. My son worked in St Thomas Virgin Island and recommended using elastomeric roof coating for painting the tank. He said that is what they use in the islands to coat their cisterns. Depends on brand you use ,you can get 10 to life time warranty. A gallon at Home Depot or Lowe’s costs around $30+.

I made one just the same a couple of years ago. After a little over a year, began seeing rust start to develop. Almost a month later, the entire tank was covered in rust but only on the inside and below the waterline. Never added any chemicals aside from a small chlorine tablet float. Attempted draining, sanding and re-coating with pond paint but the rust would keep coming through. Just something to be aware of i guess.

You can also just swirl the water around in a circle with your hand from outside and all the sediment forms a blob on the exact center of the pool floor. Then use a ten foot piece of old garden hose as a siphon and suck the sediment blob out of the pool. It works well and is free except you lose maybe five gallons of water that goes out with the sludge. Then just add a bit of water and you are back to a clean pool. I have done it for years and it works perfectly. and free...

Add one of these when I was a kid in the 60s. Put it in the yard and fill with water and swim. And I came time to change the water we opened the drain plug and watered the backyard. In the winter time just put down some two before turn it over and let it sit on those.

Chlorine can have a corrosive effect on aluminum components, but homeowners and swimming pool maintainers are sometimes not aware of this corrosion since the corrosion itself takes on a white or gray color that is easily overlooked. it's not sun screen making the water milky. cheers!

Chaplin these tanks do work great for raised beds, and I know someone who made one with a large one like this but i think this size is too large because it’s difficult to reach into the center.
@ikigai474 жыл бұрын
@@urbanfarmstead - Excellent point. You'd have to maybe arrange things as a circle. Nothing DEAD center, just a circle of plants near the center, then a bigger circle near the edge. Maybe a decorative statue in the middle or something. I'd still love to try it since it's attractive.
