This not entirely true. Kid Cudi was making music long before he hit NYC, in fact he worked not 5 mins from my house at the movie theater. I've met his mom multiple times as well as talked with Plain Pat. Maybe one day I'll tell those stories. But anywho Jhene Aiko ex husband Dot Da Genius and Plain Pat discovered Cudi during a contest in an auditorium. Cudi was doing fashion and he was in Scene Mag and Karmaloop prior to linking with Ye. Ye mad talented but Cudi redefined Ye moving away from braggadocio rap and into emo rap. 808s would've never happened and that was the most important album on the trajection of hip hop and literally launched Drake into superstardom from a remix of Say You Will. The signature Kanye West sound is actually just Cyhi, Cudi, Travis, and Bhasker with Kanyisms as sprinkles.
