Where would one buy those grow mats that you mentioned ? My search results have all ended with heat mats, and nothing about grow mats. What kind of material are we talking about ?

Micro greens are a blast! I love using them in omelets just before you fold them, and with a bunch in top. Yum! Having a dinner party with soup and salad - having a row micro greens on a lazy Susan at the table and a scissor as part of the silverware so people can cut their own is a great way to introduce folks to micro greens!

Great video, thanks 😄clear, concise and well presented! I noticed you put the seeds directly into the sun, while I have seen other people starting the seeds in complete darkness (ie. a tray with seeds and another tray stacked inside to simulate the weight of soil and lack of light underground) for 3 or 4 days, the idea being the sprouts start off stronger and begin to lift the tray on top of them. Then you take it off and give full sunlight and they explode. Have you experimented with that method to compare to full sunlight from the start?

I was seeing other gardeners talk about growing micro greens as fertilizer for their larger gardens. Haven’t seen much in way of results or updates yet, but it’s a very interesting idea.
@GetUrbanLeaf2 жыл бұрын
Hmmm, as in using microgreens as a cover crop? Or growing microgreens to then use as a sort of dressing for the garden?
@patticriss22382 жыл бұрын
@@GetUrbanLeaf as In using them as a fertilizer or a liquid fertilizer. They put them in a blender with water and make a slurry or a watery pour on. Whichever you want. It makes sense but I didn’t know if it had any validity.

Can you reuse the mat to grow the micro greens on (the one you liked)?
@GetUrbanLeaf2 жыл бұрын
We do see some people re-use them yes, but for hygene reasons we recommend using new ones. They're relatively affordable, 100% plant based, and compostable so tossing them causes far less damage than the alternatives

what do you do with the stems after harvest? can they be re grown?
@GetUrbanLeaf2 жыл бұрын
some can be grown a bit more, but generally after harvest you just replant and 7-10 days later you'll have more. The reason we use separate small trays is so you can have a staggered start and therefore a constant and rotating supply.

Most videos I’ve watched say keep the seeds in the dark and put the Micro Greens in the light after they’ve started to grow…about the fourth day. I’m wondering why you don’t do that?
@GetUrbanLeaf Жыл бұрын
Both methods work, but we've found that the cover/dome method (to trap humidity) has a broader application hence we opted for this approach with our kit. Happy growing!

Do you ever cook the microgreens? Maybe you loose the nutrition?
@GetUrbanLeaf3 жыл бұрын
Most people do not cook them because they lose some of that signature fresh microgreens flavor. Also when reduced down by heat you'd end up with micro-microgreens, similarly to how spinach or other leafy greens lose a lot of volume when cooked.
@JWHealing Жыл бұрын
For cooked mini greens I'd suggest mung bean sprouts. They are more substantial so are nice lightly cooked, say in a noodle dish with lots of veggies, garlic etc.
