This used to confuse the bejeezuz outta me when I first installed my aux lights years ago, until I realized it was just the aux light circuit routed thru a relay and a separate switch circuit to trigger the relay to activate the aux lights. A relay is simply a magnetic switch that saves you from having to run the high power needed to run an accessory through that tiny switch. And it allows the accessory to get the full 12v of clean power directly off the battery instead of tapping it off some other component. The trick is getting the smaller switch circuit to get its power from a live wire that is activated only when the ignition key is turned on.

thumbs up!! my question is...., is relay a must in the circuit? what if a connect the positive directly to the terminal through a switch and a fuse? Thanks

Relay circuits are used whenever a low power circuit is used to control a high power circuit. But in theory you could do what you suggest as long as your switch, wiring and fuse are up to the task of handling the load of your lights. Most LED lights are drawing less power these days too. Thanks for watching!

@@UrbanMonkTV For your kind and prompt reply, I had to subscribe:) My motorbike has a 12V battery. The LEDs (fog lights) are 2. Each is 125W 12V. Can you advise if: 1) i Use a relay and 2) even if not necessary to use it, will using it give me better brightness? Thanks a million

@@zainhussein1975 Thanks for subbing! With LEDs, brightness won't differ one way or the other.

@@zainhussein1975 Oh, and I'd recommend relay circuit in the case.

Can I get the wiring harness info so I can order the same one for my bike? Please. Thank you

I'm sorry. I did this almost 4 years ago. The wiring kit with relay has fallen off my purchase history on eBay. That's where I got it though. I'm sure there are more like it there. Thanks for watching!
