We are excited about landings on Mars. But in 2005, a spacecraft landed on the largest moon of Saturn, Titan. It revealed a a strange world where there are liquid methane rivers and lakes, and the mountains are made up of solid ice! I saw Saturn and tiny Titan along it's side a year ago during lockdown for the first time through my telescope. It was a sight that I will never forget. Lockdown provided me an opportunity to use my telescope for the first time although I had it for over 5 years. 🙂

An Excellent video sir, sir is it possible methane and other organic compound on Titan are actually fossil fuel of any life? Because on earth mostly organic compounds and methane are fossil evidence of past life.

Thank you Shahzaib. Well, methane can be in the atmospheres non-biologically. Now, there is a puzzle of why methane persists in Titan's atmosphere - as rain should deplete it. But astronomers think that some other chemical process is replenishing the methane in the atmosphere...(but not fossils).

Loved your video Sir. It is said that Mars lost some of its atmosphere due to its low gravity, but Titan has thick atmosphere though its smaller than Earth. How could it hold this much atmosphere? Isn't it a puzzle? Thanks!

Excellent excellent question!! Well, indeed this is a puzzle. We know that methane rains down on Titan. So there must be some chemical process that brings it back to the atmosphere and replenish it there. We don't know what it is... :)

That is a nice puzzle. Remember that Mercury doesn't have atmosphere. But teh important thing about Titan is that it has a thick atmosphere!

Sir what a great job u r doing,I have two questions hope u will figure it out and elaborate in the future.1st as titan is far far away from the sun than how can we see a parachute shadow there because their is no sunlight so powerful that could cause such impact. Whereas my 2nd question,irralevent to this video but it persists that if we ho away from earth,even in ISS,we r out of the gravity.its impact is very little,than how moon and planets are tied by gravety

Naveed - thank you. And 1) there is light from a huge Saturn coming there and going through the clouds, and 2) we are not out of gravity on ISS. We call it "zero gravity" but this is a wrong term. You are actually constantly falling. But ISS is in orbit - so in some ways you constantly keep on missing the Earth. The same is true of the Moon. It is in orbit around the Earth (or more accurately, Earth and the Moon orbit their center of mass...but Earth has most of the mass in the system).
