Maybe try looking for a small hospital facility as a wound care NP. At my facility, the wound care nurse is busy but he is able to manage his time, breath and even gets a lunch break! You got to find what works for you!

Yes ma’am add up the yes’s and no’s. I’m an RN and worked an occupational health clinic for 3 months and left in March of this year. I knew that no matter what, the working conditions would not change had I chosen to stay longer. Just above all, take care of yourself during this process. Sending love and strength!

I briefly worked in minute clinic and the target clinics before they were bought out. I didn’t enjoy it for some of the same reasons you stated here. I was the only provider. I had to check them in, check insurance/payment status, etc. Then the patients were coming in insisting they needed an antibiotic for a common cold. There was a lot of entitlement, but that’s because the culture has conditioned people to be that way.

Yes, we started this culture with our patient satisfaction surveys. Patients know they can complain and get what they want.

I'm a nurse in the Urgent Care and you are absolutely right! People walk thru the door demanding antibiotics. It's insane. You provide patient education but they don't give a darn! They want what they want and they want it now. The providers I work with get frustrated about this too.

I truly don’t understand the antibiotic obsession. I think the public is mislead to believe antibiotics can treat almost everything it seems. Even things that aren’t bacterial infections.

I think most of the public doesn't understand that viruses and bacteria are not the same thing. They think "germs" and they all fall in the same category. So lots of ongoing education needed. And it can't just be on practitioners to do that education.

I completely get your frustration. I did one rotation in an urgent care setting and said to my self "this will never be for me" the workload is ridiculous. Then my preceptor never for a minute had time to explain anything to me because of the fast pace. I came home everyday so overwhelmed and I know the things I learnt is just because of the repetitive complaints from thesame patients or similar cases. Maybe eventually you will cope but you rightly said, there's no time to teach or connect with the patients which I think takes away or "nursing" from us.

in my hospital we had wound care nurse it was not a rush , I assisted her it was amazing do not settle because its okay for others , please do what make you happy feel like you accomplishing something

A few things I have noticed over the last few videos 1. there are numerous red flags in this company including lack of real training, lack of staff (providers), and the constant pressure due to these factors lead to errors. Your right wound care is your thing as I told you before looking for a wound care center near you is your best bet where I live here in Florida there are three within driving distance. Explore that option for yourself you aren't happy until your doing what you love. Nursing home wound care isn't bad if that is all your doing.

Sadly, most NPs and PAs are thrown in day one. There isn't "training".

I understand your frustration Sis. Going back to school for my psych NP. I have some options now for employment as FNP but taking my time to think through them. The Healthcare system is just an industry churning out Google diagnosis and treatment plans created by patients for patients. The same patients who leave Google reviews based on how open you are to their treatment plans. An industry run by pharmaceutical companies. Nurses and NPs work with poor staffing, resources and are slated to take the fall when things go wrong. To have 1 provider for 90 patients is asking for trouble eventually... When we speak up other NPs providers who have never worked in such conditions act as if we are just plain complaining.

I wonder if what you been experiencing, is the sad reality’s for majority of providers in our healthcare system? I listen to other NPs PAs having very similar experiences. It maybe like bedside nursing?there is how it “should be”, but the real reality is…lbedside nursing should always staffed appropriately, continuity in care should be there so patients should have same nurses, nurses should only work 3 days on 3 days off, If requested, 8hours should be the norm, hospitals and floors should be fully staffed so weekends should be completed by weekend nurses, No on call because there should be hired prn staff, nurses should able to truly have breaks and lunch and a nurse should have lunch and breaks covere by hired prn and float nurses. nurses should have the options to leave for 30min lunch. There should be REAL and maintained appropriate nurse to patient ratio. Always Each acuity level should only go to the appropriate floor, so there should never be an increase in nurse to patient ration unless they decide to quit and change units. The list can Sadly go on and on of how it “ supposed to be.” we all know all those criteria will not happen and Majority of bedside nursing is the COMPLETE opposite of what it is supposed to be. I dreamed about being a provider assuming it would be HOW it’s supposed to be including appropriate provider to patient ratio, time to chart all notes in between patient so no notes should be taken home, each provider visit should atleast 20 mins , etc. etc. provider should able to leave it designated time with only 40hr work week. sadly a good np job seems less common. I Don’t know it’s just a thought. Can anyone give insight into this?

Totally relate to you about the antibiotic obsession of some patients….they may immediately decline COVID shot and flu shot but ask for unnecessary antibiotics JUST BECAUSE that will make them feel better somehow😅

In healthcare it’s important to find your niche. I’ve been an RN for nearly a decade. They are labeling us as “heroes” and expecting us to take on superhuman duties and tasks, and as of recently are taking nurses to court to charge them criminally after we are constantly being set up for failure. We are human, and are not being treated humanely. I’m not a hero. This healthcare is a broken system, and most of these places are only concerned about their bottom line. At the end of the day RN’s, LPN’s, NP’s have to look out for themselves and find a place that’s comfortable and not having us put our licenses at risk….if this was a male dominated field I have a sneaking suspicion that things would be much different.

I love your videos. I listened to your video on my today thinking, she's such a nice person. Hope your days get better. I'm looking to leave Primary care been doing it now for almost 5 years. Honestly I don't think urgent care in that setting, would work for me either. I'm no ass kisser either. The un necessary demands for antibiotics alone would drive me crazy. As a pcp I see post urgent care patients over prescribed antibiotics returning to me still not feeling better because they had a virus, nothing an antibiotic could help.

I used to work at an urgent care and there was only one provider and he would most times work through lunch. Many of the new ones were almost always overwhelmed. I would try to buy the np lunch so he could at least eat while working thru lunch.

interesting story. the last ticket my aunt got (shes an Micu RN) the very next shift she worked, i kid you not, the police officer who wrote her the tickets MOTHER was her patient! i know around here (im in MI as well) theres kind of an unwritten rule that cops dont write nurses tickets i mean for silly things. i LOVE your content BTW!

I got a ticket for "not stopping" at a stop sign but the cops where staking out the corner. I did stop but he said I didn't. His training officer just snapped at me and said "Argue that with the judge!" The trainee was respectful. It was such a let down when people have a power trip and need to make quotas. I paid $238. I Moved on, but it left a nasty taste in my mouth. I tried hard not to let it ruin my day but I see why some people hate cops. The power trip is real. Your word against theirs.

The confidence will come with time, but you'll always be shooing patients out the door. Many of our patients would ask for our PA to be their PCP because she actually listened to them. Amen to the "I'm not going to kiss your *ss!" I feel the same way. I'm kind and compassionate, but I can't be fake as a RN. Oh yeah, I was never excused by the police when wearing my uniform. 😃

It’s not gonna be 10-15 minutes with patients if they need procedures. And have a lot of medical things going on and charting takes 10-15 minutes off that. And if an emergency happens you stop and attend that. The average is 4 an hour and imagine 10 walk-in and rushing to be seen in the next 20 minutes. this is alot for 1 provider

@@fromcnatonp I think in a way it just may highlight that perhaps we are just ill prepared as NPs to take on the challenges that come with the profession. You are not the only NP I've seen jumping from one area to the next. You don't see MDs doing that, or even speaking negatively about their profession. Then again, they are much better trained than we are.
