Urinary Retention In Adults

Urinary retention is an inability to completely empty the bladder. Onset can be sudden or gradual. When of sudden onset, symptoms include an inability to urinate and lower abdominal pain. When of gradual onset, symptoms may include loss of bladder control, mild lower abdominal pain, and a weak urine stream. Those with long term problems are at risk of urinary tract infections.
Causes include blockage of the urethra, nerve problems, certain medications, and weak bladder muscles. Blockage can be caused by benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), urethral strictures, bladder stones, a cystocele, constipation, or tumors. Nerve problems can occur from diabetes, trauma, spinal cord problems, stroke, or heavy metal poisoning. Medications that can cause problems include anticholinergics, antihistamines, tricyclic antidepressants, decongestants, cyclobenzaprine, diazepam, NSAIDs, amphetamines, and opioids. Diagnosis is typically based on measuring the amount of urine in the bladder after urinating.

BPH plus extreme sensitivity to bladder irritants cause occasional retention problems. Exposure to cold seems to aggravate this as well.

I have spinal stenosis and before surgery day i have lost bladder control ( unable to pee ) within 48 hours i had surgery and surgeron said it is Cauda equina syndrome , now am able to by applying pressure with thin flow of stream, can i get back normal bladder function . Any pelvic floor exercise video can anyone share

Mai 9 months se urine problem face kr raha tha kariban shahar ke sare urologist doctor ko dikhaliya tha but koi doctor koi medicine effects nahi kr rahi thi 1 hours me 5 se 6 baar washroom jaana padta tha jane ke bad khul ke peshab nahi hota tha aur mai student hu to thik se study bhi nahi kr pa raha tha fir is problem ke liye maine utracon syrup aur utracon capsule liya karib 3 se 4 mahine liya hoga maine ise aur mai puri tarah se thik ho gaya.

are you okay now? my mom had surgery 4 months ago and since the surgery she cannot empty her bladder so she is self cath 6 times a day, she has had so many UTis and is on antibiotics every day her quality of life has decreased. im looking at Interstim Sacral Neuro Stimulation, have you heard of this?

Hii since last nine months m suffering from urinary retention my bladder is not emptying completely.. I am taking treatment and also m on intermittent catheterization.. Now I am able to do normal urine from last nine days i was not using catheter.. But now periods came my urine is getting obstructing.. I want to ask why again is dis happening?? And this disease is curable or not.. I am married but not having child.. Doctor had done urodynamic test.. She told bladder muscles are weak..
