I had a urolift procedure on a Tuesday. Pelvic pain was very minimal - I took no pain meds for it since so minimal. The main pain was a burning in my urethra which felt like acid pouring out of my penis. That improved each day with a medicine called Azo which is available over the counter. Urgency after the procedure came every 30 to 60 mins and a lot of times I didn't make it in time. It was a rough couple nights and there is still urgency, but now the frequency to urinate is about every 2-3 hours. On the fourth day, urine flow is finally constant and not trickling like before, which also seemed to get better as the inflammation in the urethra reduces. So it's now Sunday and I'm very glad that I work from home this coming week. Between the urgency and some dribbling after, wearing work clothes would mean a mess. The doc in this video says it's possible to go back to work a day or two after tge procedure. I woukd agree but only if you use an undergarment like Depends or you might be very embarrassed at work if you urinate in a hallway on your way to the bathroom or in a meeting with others around. It is a minimally invasive procedure, but it's still trauma to that region of your body and everyone is different in terms of how it responds. I'll post here again after a full week has passed since my procedure. I do believe that I will ultimately be very pleased with the results, especially after seeing the before and after pictures of my prostate now showing a very pronounced path allowing urine to flow. Good luck!

Having this done in 2 weeks. This video provided more information than I got via my doctor. My doc would answer any questions I have but we don’t always know what to ask.

I just had the Urolift procedure a few days ago. Though it appears to have gone well, I would have liked to have had this doc. He gave info I wish I’d had prior. Also, other docs should follow his lead on contacting. It would have been useful in my case. Bravo, doc!

I had the procedure three years ago at age 67. Before the procedure, I was urinating every hour (including through the night), a weak flow and lots of dribbling. My prostate was twice normal size at 60cc (one urologist said, "If that was a buck, you'd mount it"). Unrelated to the UroLift procedure, I'd a year earlier had a prostate biopsy because of a high PSA, but the biopsy was negative. I was given a general anesthetic for the procedure. Afterward, there was 23 hours with a catheter, which was uncomfortable but not particularly painful. Another few days of some moderate pain with urination, but what was more bothersome was the inability to hold back the flow...I had to stay close to the bathroom that week. Then I had another three weeks of gradually re-learning how to hold it back. At this point, I'm going four hours between urination, strong flow, no dribbling, and complete evacuation. I'm still taking finasteride, and probably will. No complications. I'm totally happy with the procedure.

Thanks for covering what to expect over the first few weeks and months. Just had the procedure 2 days ago. Dealing with burning and quite a bit of blood. Good to have a sense of how recovery is likely to progress from here.

Had it 3 weeks ago, no catheter. Had enlarged median lobe too. It works, feels like a rewind to my 30s. General anesthesia in Dr office was best. Dr told me everything I needed to know before so no surprises. Buys you 5-10 years on average and everyone is different IMO, no way you can go to work on day 2. You have to drink a lot of water to flush blood out of urine so you're constantly going and can't hold it. Gets worse before it gets better due to swelling for 2- 3 days after. Uncomfortable for 5 days, but AZO was a lifesaver. Ibuprofen for pain and swelling worked best but caused more bleeding, so had to stop. Still on tamsulosin for now.

I am during better now but still have some burning at times. I don't go as often but still have to go when I have to go as times You fellows understand I know. I carry a urinal in my car ( suggestion) . The procedure was quick. But the 1st night was terrible 😢😢😢. I went back to my Dr.(he is good) and he put me on some additional meds. A steroid pack, Azo(got mine over the counter,a lot cheaper for burning, help control how often you pee(Wal-Mart brand) ,and pain med.I peed in bed and was not emptying completely. Also I was put on an antibiotic.Dr. said everyone does not have all the issues I did.Recently woke up to a wet bed again. Better for me I believe that I had it done, no doubt. But ,going back to work the next day or for two weeks in my case ,No way.Still have to fellow up with Dr. We belong to the Uro Life Club my brothers.I thank God for getting me through and for another year of 8 days.Always thank him for blessings , enemies, problems ( which I see as opportunities)).Love one another as Jesus showed us.Sickness a lot of times comes from who you give the power over you and hating people. I had a Urolift 3 days ago (Monday) - I passed clots, right away everytime I peed - day after the procedure, (Tuesday) I couldn't pee and was in absolute agony - had to go to the emergency room, they put in a catheter. It's now Thursday and I'm more comfortable, I still have the catheter and I'm still bleeding quite a bit. Monday, I'm seeing the Urologist again - I'm desperately hoping for some improvement by then so I can get the catheter removed, but I am definitely concerned with all the bleeding and blood in my urine

My procedure was on a Tuesday, early morning. That afternoon I urinated repeatedly. On one of those instances the flow was quite good, and I said to myself, "Great - I can work with this". After that though, on subsequent urination events, the flow became more and more reduced, and got down to trickling. On Wednesday afternoon my trickling release of urine wouldn't happen, and I too had your agony experience. Fear of contracting sepsis from an exploded bladder filed my brain. The hospital E.R is only 3 miles away and they were ANGELIC in their work on me. I had 565 CCs of urine in my bladder before the catheter. It went to ZERO once the catheter was in place - Thank God. I'D HAVE A CATHETER PUT IN PLACE AS A FINAL STEP TO THE UROLIFT PROCEDURE if I could go back in time. If told "No Guarantee" on that - ID OPT OUT of this procedure.

Dr. Hyman I had the procedure Monday. Feeling run down. Not much sleep. Have been trying Tylenol PM at night. Get about 1-2hrs of sleep. No blood in urine BUT heavy burning and hard to empty bladder. Thank you so much for the video. My Dr just mentioned AZO and Tylenol for pain but had not heard of Ibuprofen after urine clears. Thank you so much.

I got my Urolift 2 days ago..The doctor sent me home in a catheter..Suppose to take it out the next morning.. I took it out early because I couldn't urinate & was very painful..The next day I was doing better.. I also had the turp surgery a few months ago..Same problem with the catheter.(maybe bladder spasms).. 👌

One thing i learned is you cant rely on comments when it comes to pain and complications. I was terrified by comments of scoping the bladder which i found was no big deal.. everyone has different levels of pain tolerance and complications and perhaps the average ones never make a comment. I going in tomorrow ,have had an indwelling cath for two weeks ending with infection ,, no fun but i managed, will see how this goes.

These comments are scary. However, I have a friend that had it done and he is extremely pleased with results. Wish me luck, im getting mine in three days.😮

Update: I'm two and a half weeks post procedure. My urine stream is weaker than before the surgery and still getting up three times a night. I must be one of the 50% that take longer than two weeks to see a major benefit.

@@christianmani1730Thanks for asking. I am disappointed in the results. I still have to pee a couple of times a night and the third time usually wake up at 4:00 . Sucks. I had a sleep study last week. No apnea but I do have restless legs.

@@samhoskins8706 Yikes, I'm so sorry to hear. I'm just now starting my 2x day Flowmax (was on 1x for the last 6 years). I know some kind of minimally invasive procedure is in my future in the next year or so. I have sleep apnea and have used CPAP for the last 5 years. I also have some occasional restless leg in the evening at bedtime. I'm 65 in 1 month. Getting older sucks! Lol. I hope your situation improves. Best of luck!

My husband goes in tomorrow 12/8 for this procedure. As his wife I’m reading on what to expect. Thank you all for sharing your experience...I will not be sharing your comments with him since he has been waiting for this surgery for at least 4 years and struggling..The medications for this caused him so much side effects that one we believe was causing severe chest pains and migraines along with loss of strength..Horrible..Personally I told him just to have it taken out but I know there are other complications that can arise from that..??With your results would you go back in time and have it taken out or would you still have the Urolift?

I had it done over 4 month ago! Still in excruciating pain.times when I'd rather be dead. a month ago I stopped peeing.i tried to self cath. Like I hit a brick wall just before prostate. I went to urolist he couldn't get catheter in either. Had to go to hospital emergency, they put me under and used wire guide to get it in. Now I got more pain in urethra. They said I have scar tissue from urolift surgery. They are now suggesting I have Turp procedure now. What a rd too hell!

Urolift is not recommended for large enlarged prostate volume of greater than 100 cc. Secondly, Urolift is not recommended if the prostate continues to grow in time. Therefore, the doctor and patient need to find out if the prostate has been growing and still growing.

Omg! Post op days 1-5 SUCKED!!!! I get bad insane muscle spasms from the catheter. Surgeon ripped a hole in my urethra that needed to be cauterized. I blead for 3 days. Day 1-3 were so bad from catheter i was taking hydrocodone 10mg, morphine 15mg. Thank god i had morphine at home from a spinal surgery. If u have a bad problem with catheters the way i do i highly recommend morphine and dilaudid be ready for as soon as u wake up!!!!

Urolift completely and permanently destroyed my life !!!! Now I am faced with my new urologist wanting to do another surgery (greenlight) to correct to the botched UROLIFT procedure. I am told I would have to self catheterize everyday possible for the rest of my life. My symptoms now are WORSE than before Urolift. Please be advised and don't say I didn't warn you if you get this procedure !!!!!

I could not have possibly gone back to work for at least two weeks…worst pain I have ever experienced. Total blockage a day after the procedure and had to have a catheter for over a week. It’s been a month now and things are absolutely worse than before the procedure. And I was told I was a perfect candidate for Urolift. I wish I could go back in time-I would never have gotten it. I wouldn’t recommend Urolift to my worst enemy! Well, maybe Putin should get it.
