1)Heavy rain causes large water content(above plastic limit of soil) above the water content at full saturation of soil (shrinkage limit).. That means water content increases upto liquid limit of soil where soil can flow like water.. 2) Also Increased rain causes increased weight in soil due to addition of water density. 3) Since all voids (in soil and rocks)are occupied with water.. Pore pressure increases and soil effective stress dicreases to maximum creating flow conditions.Heavy rain in short time creates zero infiltration and full Runoff (surface flow , subsurface flow, ground water flow) and this happens even before full saturation also in case of cloud bursts etc.. 4) Flow condition gets favourable results due to slopy conditions in hilly regions especially at critical slope of 20 degrees and above. Also heavy rain in short period creates consolidation of soil creating soil structure revision and stability reduction in that limited period. 5) Due to orographic precipitation in this hilly areas in kerala, flow is always at maximum speed and reason for precipitation is frequent due to ghats mountains. 6) Since the basic reason is heavy rain above 'normal annual precipitation' in the area.. The whole basic reason is rain and hence "Climate change". 7) Reason for climate change consists of different factors including factors having human intervention in the form of infrastructure development activities which are not sustainable causing major effective changes in inter continental convergence zone (ICCZ), flash flood, cloud burst.. Etc.. 8) Climate change is a challenge.. Rehabiliting people to new place is not a part of effective solution and taking up of a challenge.. Take the example of ireland as a nation which is well extremely below sea level and how they developed coastal engineering to live in that nation.. If rehabilitation to new place was a solution, then ireland people long before should have moved to new place.. 9) Effective warning system, addition of more electronic rain gauge stations , soil saturation tool insertion stations, effective meterological surveys, Use of technology, zoning of the areas, sustainable solutions etc must be the long term solution to climate challenge.. 10) Yes.. Climate has more power than humans.. Fight it using technology is the only solution and human life itself is a fight at every moment against nature.. Tame it, coexist with it, fight it..
