Hello! What priming technique would you recommend for lacquerware that has mother of pearl designs in it (not to be used as a pen or dishware but to be hung on a wall)?

Would you use any primer on old wood? I have an old translucent urushi finish that someone took off at somepoint. I'd like to redo it and make it beautiful again.

Thanks for your comment, Pen Friends :) Usually Honji on fountain pens. I may use Honkataji if the pen has sharp corners and the structure of the pen allows thick paint. Fun fact: Honkataji can be used to repair pen with hairline cracks.

Thankyou for your helpful tutorial. I'm a beginner experimenting with raw urushi as a wood finish, and I have a question about hydration of the cured urushi. I'm applying raw urushi by rubbing, over oak that has been burnished with a hard object. I then sand and burnish the cured urushi before applying a new layer of raw urushi. I noticed that I can spray water on the cured urushi, and after drying the surface my hygrometer suggests that the lacquer, although dry to the touch, has a higher water content. Is this a helpful thing to do, in terms of building a more durable surface? Or on the other hand is it discouraged?
