Hwy 101N is super pretty, almost like Hwy 49N near its northern terminus.

1:17 That sure is one loooong traffic light! 🤯 Those so-called divided highway segments aren't actually separated. The freeway segment near the end of the video doesn't even prevent head-on collision. Jersey barriers shouldn't be too large, nor too expensive, for that...

& your journey on US 101 in CA continues. By this point, one's officially is in The Pacific Northwest with all that greenery everywhere. & maybe one day, you'll drive on PCH/CA 1 & when you return to Colorado The Million Mile Highway as well. There's lots of interesting highways you haven't driven yet that're worth the InterstateKyle Treatment.

I'd argue that an Interstate-grade (for mountainous territory) freeway would be so useful on the US 101 corridor, but at the same time, it would be technically challenging. The 4-lane sections should certainly have median barriers.

These freeways have been around since the 1950s-1970s. Not much has been updated since and I doubt it’s high on Caltrans to do list.

Nicely done, Kyle. I'll echo the sentiments about the "Freeway" segments. No dividing barriers at all-some K-rails might come in handy as such. Remember: as you go further north, the more into Bigfoot country you get....Keep an eye out as you go up the 101: there have been sightings along the highway from Willits all the way to Oregon!

While up that way, did you get a chance to drive the "Avenue of the Giants"? (redwoods) I think it starts just north of Garberville (it 's been many years since I was up that way. Avenue of the Giants is the old 2-lane route of U.S. 101. Hopefully, it's still like days, when 2-lane roads were still fun to drive.

I can see US 101 in the future between San Francisco and Los Angeles being an Interstate Highway, but north of San Francisco? That would be madness.🤔🤔🤔

Good scenery, but yikes, portions of that road look downright terrifying in terms of safety. I feel like, if there's no true, physical median, then it shouldn't be considered divided. It really should be made into at least a 4 lane expressway the entire way. At the same time though, some of those portions looked like widening would be challenging due to the terrain.

CalTrash has terrible signage and those old fashioned cutout route markers are horrible.
