I served in the US Army for 15 yrs. Never once have I ever heard another American soldier voice doubts about British soldiers being our allies or worrying if they would be any help in combat. We rarely get to train with the British but when we do its always a cause for celebration to serve next to our cousins across the pond. /Salute to these fine men, and thank you for doing what you could over there. P.S. Same goes for the other former British Empire nations like Australia, Canada and etc. Especially Canada: We see you peeking at us! lol.

Im getting a lump in my throat readings some of these comments. It warms my heart to see so much love and respect between the U.K. and U.S. and im not fogetting our brothers down under the aussies and kiwi's or our other brothers in arms from north america Canada. A Canadian Captain saved my grandads life the day after D-day so i literally owe my life to that brave Canadian captain.

I, along with my best friend since preschool, joined the US military immediately after high school graduation. The Gulf War was just kicking off. We made one last road trip as civilian teenagers from the suburbs of Detroit to Ajax, Ontario to visit my buddy's family. Other than the gas to get us there and back, we never spent a dime. I don't think we bought a single drink for ourselves the entire trip. We were off to boot camp after this last little adventure, and the Canadians treated us like family. I'll never forget that feeling of comradery. Long overdue "Thank you" to our brothers and fellow soldiers-in-arms to the North.

I went to visit him in Tulsa years later, he told me that once he watched the TV coverage of the Falklands Invasion from a bar in Tulsa and he told all his friends..' I trained with these guys and boy are they tough, on manoeuvres the brits always went through the obstacles while we went around it' he laughed... I hope the Royal Military Police will accept the deep respects and sincere regards of an old American cavalry corporal. Proper bastards, you lot. And let me apologize for my government, who could not find the wherewithal to award you something more significant than an ARCOM. When I was on active duty [a million years ago, when Cold Warriors and other dinosaurs proudly walked the Earth] we called it the 'Green Hornet', after a pulp radio hero, and didn't hold that particular decoration in very high regard. Oh, it helped when they were counting up promotion points, but you could get it for busting your ass for six months or having your nose up the company commander's fundament. I'll leave it to you to guess which type of soldier got the Hornet most often. IMHO, you gentlemen deserved a Bronze Star [which can be awarded for combat action or great skill in a dangerous situation]. Nevertheless, if you ever get around to the States, I'd admire to buy you a pint of whatever you're drinking.

I don't believe the US Army has any 5 star Generals at present either. The British Army (Government) may choose to promote a senior General to Field Marshal rather than 5 Star in wartime. Same thing just different terminology.

Fairly certain 5 star (equivalent) is honourary in the British army and was awarded to the Prince of Wales but I cannot remember. US army retired the 5-star rank during the 80s

@@wiretom If memory serves correctly I think Major General is two ranks away from General, which is one rank down from Field Marshal. Brigadier, Major General, Lieutenant General, General and Field Marshal.

Agreed. The Duke was a navy lieutenant in the Royal Navy. He helped operate the searchlights in a night action at the battle of Matapan where the Royal Italian navy lost three heavy cruisers and two destroyers. Damaged the Vittorio Veneto in a torpedo strike too.
