Morse was all we did and I was an 05B4S with a POS dipole and no tuner. It's a wonder we ever made comms. The ERP sucked. 18 series did not come out till the mid 80's. The S on the end of your MOS was Special Forces qualified. Back then it was a flash you got from your assigned Group after SFQC. P was airborne and V was for Ranger. When I left active and went to Reserve SF I was told by the Company SGM to go ahead and have a Beret built for our group. Got my ham ticket while at Devens and still have it. There are a few of us that get together on HF but little is ever said on the air about our prior service.

Thanks for your service Robert! I started with someone the old timers of SF from the Vietnam Era. They were the last of their kind for sure! Many of them served in the old 11th SFG before it was disbanded around 1989/1990, that was reorganized into the 19th SFG. Always good to hear those old stories!

You should see what the 18E course has now. The entire Morse code section has been replaced with computer applications module

Green Beret Unlimited Im in the 18E course now. Its cool to see how some things havent changed as well as how much new tech todays green berets have access to. We still use that brick of a radio the PRC-119.

No way!!! That's too cool. Thanks for liking the video. Please share the page with others....and when you graduate and get to an ODA, get yourself vetted into the SF Brothers secret page on FB. There's 4,000 official GB's that connect on there.. Some old, and some new like you, but all bleed red, white and blue, baby!

I'm not sure that's a good idea. Its a skill to fall back on rather than depend on hi tech. #rockbeatslaser

hey, this is cool, but this 'old school' moniker is very 'relative' to the maker. i was in when we were doing morse code, hand crank generators and long wire antenna, there were no satellite comms and crypto was a hand jammed pad. and i am sure there are a few generations before me that make me look like a newbie, haha! but this is awesome vid, thanks for making! :-)

You are correct Green Beret! This video is from the 90's and that's when I went through the Q. Wow! Times have changed!

Would you recommend this mos for someone who has no experience in working with technology hands on like this? Or choose something that you can give back to the team?
