Why is it that the play on words works for some, illegal is illegal, and anyone who enters illegally is an illegal immigrant. Claiming asylum after you committed an illegal act should not remove your illegal immigrant status. Using this logic we may need to look at some of the people who are in jail etc
@RaymondHng4 ай бұрын
Claiming asylum after crossing into the U.S. border means that you are asserting a legal right under international and U.S. law to seek refuge from persecution in your home country. When someone enters the U.S. and claims asylum, they are not immediately classified as an illegal immigrant because they are invoking a legal process to determine whether they qualify for refugee status or other forms of protection. This process involves interviews and assessments to determine the validity of their claim based on established criteria, such as fear of persecution due to race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. Seeking asylum does not guarantee approval, but it does afford individuals certain legal protections during the adjudication process. Therefore, the terminology "illegal immigrant" is not applicable to individuals who are actively pursuing asylum claims within the legal framework provided by U.S. immigration laws.

@RaymondHng4 ай бұрын
@@TruthTeller8888 "Invading a country" refers to an act where one country's military forces enter another country's territory without permission from the government of that country. Individuals crossing the border are not military forces and they are not "invading a country". "Claiming asylum" refers to the process by which a person who is seeking international protection applies to be recognized as a refugee. This usually occurs when someone flees their own country due to fear of persecution or serious harm based on factors such as race, religion, nationality, political opinion, or membership in a particular social group. When someone claims asylum, they are seeking legal recognition and protection in another country, asserting that they cannot return to their home country safely. Countries that are signatories to international agreements, such as the 1951 Refugee Convention and its 1967 Protocol, have legal obligations to consider such claims and provide protection to those who qualify as refugees. The individual must file Form I-589, Application for Asylum and for Withholding of Removal. The applicant typically waits for several months to be scheduled for an interview with USCIS. The wait time can vary significantly based on the current caseload and processing times. Following the interview, USCIS usually takes some time to review the case and make a decision. This can range from a few weeks to several months, again depending on the specifics of the case and workload. If the application is denied, the applicant may have the option to appeal the decision, which can extend the process further. If the case is referred to immigration court (if the applicant is in removal proceedings), the timeline can also be prolonged.

It's very easy to look down upon the illegal immigrants, but nobody choose where they were born into. You can't blame or penalize people who want to seek a better life for themselves. The US is very wealthy, they can handle immigrants, they just need to have a way to funnel immigrants (legal or not) to the right place to contribute to the society, have them pay tax, increasing tax tevenue for government to pay for your old people's pension, that's a perfect scenario. It just requires political will and power to process and distribute immigrants. It is because of immigrations, the US is constantly growing. If u r in a position to look down upon illegal immigrants, take a look at your own privilege at the same time, u r already in a wealthy state taken care of by the world number one economy.

you make a compelling point. It's important to remember that many people don't have the luxury of choosing where they were born and are simply seeking better opportunities for themselves and their families. The US has historically benefited from immigration, and finding ways to integrate immigrants into society can enhance the economy and support public services through taxes. Instead of looking down on those who seek a better life, we should recognize our own privileges and advocate for fair and effective immigration policies that allow people to contribute positively to society.
