I understand that early model aircraft used slot and Phillips type screws to fix panels against the fuselage but I am amazed that they are still used on this modern fighter (5:13). the slot type head is called a hi-torq and the phillips looking heads are called torq-set heads. sometimes reed and price heads are used. the hi-torq head allows for far more torque load to be applied without cam-out (slipping) than you think.

“In 1989 the F-15 Strike Eagle dedicated attack aircraft was developed…” Actually by 1988 it was in production. Initial development started in the late 70s, and demonstrators and prototypes based on the TF-15A and F-15B were flying in the early 80s. As a very young AFROTC cadet I got to visit the McDonnell-Douglas factory in St. Louis where the F-15A and B models were being built. The engineers there a pointed out that among other advantages there was enough room in the basic F-15 airframe that the fuselage did not need to be lengthened for a second seat, unlike the competing F-16 strike version.

Yep. By that time the F-15 Strike Eagle had been in development for a while, it was actually based on a 1978 study ("Tactical All-Weather Requirement Study") and McDonnel-Douglas and Hughes Aerospace began collaboration in 1979. In 1984, the Microprose's Strike Eagle computer game came out on Commodore 64, so the program was known and public.

@SpiritHawk72 жыл бұрын
A WSO is a "Weapons Systems Officer". A RIO is a "Radar Intercept Officer". Both are a Naval Flight Officer (NFO) in the US Navy. The specificity depends on the type/design of aircraft and its functional role in combat. ie. a RIO is the back-seater in an F-14. A WSO is the back-seater in an F/A-18F. The counterpart of an NFO in the US Air Force is a "Combat systems officer" (CSO).

Is F-15 any good to compete with MiG-29 or Su-27?
@fly_exefly_bat8932 жыл бұрын
@joe150_ A controversial issue. In August 1992, the US leadership invited Russian pilots from the Lipetsk Center for Combat Use and Retraining of Russian Air Force Flight Personnel to visit the American Langley Air Base. A training dogfight with the F-15D was organized. To observe the fighting, another F-15C flew out. During this battle, the F-15 turned on full afterburner, and at maximum speed had to break away from the Su-27, but could not. Then they switched places and the Su-27 broke away from the F-15D, made a U-turn and first mistakenly went into the tail of the F-15 With, and then realizing that he had chosen the wrong target, he went into the tail of the F-15D and took aim at it. That fight ended with a score of 2:0 in favor of the Su-27. Read about this story on the Internet. I know that the F-15D and F-15 Strike Eagle are different cars, BUT nevertheless the question is very controversial!
@fly_exefly_bat8932 жыл бұрын
@joe150_I wrote one sentence incorrectly. It should be read like this.Then they switched places and the Su-27 broke away from the F-15D, made a U-turn and first mistakenly entered the tail of the F-15C, and then realizing that he had chosen the wrong target, he entered the tail of the F-15D and took aim at it
