0:40 Glad you mentioned the US overthrew the Iranian government, but you forgot to mention the Iranian government at the time was a democratically elected government. By starting a coup and toppling the democratic government in Iran, US killed the nascent democracy in Iran and the middle East, and sowed the seeds of hostility towards the US for generations to come. And, of course, after the US straggled Iranian democracy, it installed a despot and a US puppet in office, who in turn brutally murdered and tortured tens and thousands of Iranians

I am a Pakistani American it’s fascinating all this back and forth. The US foreign policy sucks at best. It has a big strategic component and a week long term goal. Mossadiq the elected PM of Iran was replaced by the autocratic Shah just because the Iranians told British petroleum to understand that this refinery and oil fields belonged Iran now. The British came crying to the US and CIA installed the Shah. Read all the Shahs men an account how it happened Then take Pakistan it was a CENTO & SEATO member alliances the US created against USSR. The US had the biggest listening base in the world in Peshawar Pakistan this is pre satellite era. 4000 Americans lived at Bada Bair from where the U2 would fly across the USSR to film the vast country and land in Norway every week. Till on May 1, 1960 Francis Gray Powers’s U2 was shot down over USSR. That was the end of the base in Peshawar as K series satellites went up to do the spying. Pakistan broke away from the United States in September 1965. Every armament that Pakistan military possed was US made. The war with India Pakistan was left high and dry as the US refused to supply arms in its fight with this 6 time larger neighbor. That’s when it turned towards China. The rest is just bad policy of the United States of America. Even then Pakistan helped fight the Afghan war 1979 to oust the Russians. Then again to get Osama. Sure Pakistan got money but the Afghan refugees 4.3 million never returned brought guns drugs and host of other things into Pakistan. 45 years later things are not so good in Pakistan with US interference in the democratic process. The US policy has failed for the long term across the globe, Iran Cuba Venezuela Libya Pakistan Afghanistan and many more in Africa. Thank you for reading my elaborate account of the past 75 plus years.

US has never been serious about Pakistan. After every war, the US left Pakistan to face the aftereffects. Today, the US must think about what if the US doesn't impose unnecessary bans on Pakistan and strengthen Pakistan economically. If Pakistan were in good economic condition and was given the desired respect and financial support to overcome the war effects due to the American Wars in the region --- the situation would be totally different. This is all due to American unnecessary embargos and bans that cause Pakistan to fight for its own survival and existence. The IMF is a tool to twist arms and keep Pakistan's economic progress under control and impose harsh and unrealistic conditions which are business killers and financial meltdowns.

As a Pakistani American and a student of Pakistani politics I fully support your fair and unbiased analysis of political development in Pakistan. It goes without saying that Imran Khan is the sole leader of Pakistani people. He is simply victim of military rule. People of Pakistan voted overwhelmingly for Imran Khan’s party (PTI) on election day (February 8, this year but election results were manipulated and rigged by powerful quarters.Civilised world didn’t accept the output of rigged elections. US Congress has passed a resolution against election process in Pakistan. UN group for Human Rights also demanded the release of Imran Khan who is behind bar on fabulous cases like marrying his wife & selling his watch. Powerful military establishment has installed its stooges ,PML & POP) in power who badly lost in general elections.

Honest insite Ryan and Emily. Thank you. You are spot on, with regards to political games being played with Pakistan. It is sad. I am a Pakistani American, and would like a good relationship between the two Nations, and at the same time, would wish Pakistan to be more independent and not be a client state of any Global power, particularly US, which has used and dumped Pakistan time and again. China on the other hand has genuinely helped Pakistan on many occasions. No country should be used as a pawn. Looking at India, with similar history as Pakistan, they are very independent and do not fall under a "client" state category, so Pakistan should be same way. And IMRAN Khan, was the best hope for Pakistan's independent foreign policy and ultimately its development and well being of its common citizens.
