US festival of Thanksgiving, a day of mourning for the Wampanoag people • FRANCE 24 English

This Thursday marks Thanksgiving in the United States, a festival so deeply rooted in American tradition that it's more widely celebrated than Christmas. Thanksgiving commemorates the convivial sharing of a meal between the first English pilgrims to land on the shores of present-day Massachusetts in 1620 and the Wampanoag tribe, the local inhabitants. That's the story taught in school, but for the Native Americans, Thanksgiving is in fact a day of mourning. Our correspondents Fanny Allard and Fraser Jackson report.

I understand making sure the history of this event is factual but whats up with the continued we want the land nonsense. Not a single person on this video were actually fully native american only mixed and mainly white. We need to get over this my land your land idea. This land is no ones land we only borrow it for a while.. Its why there still fighting over land in the east. And will continue if they don't stop this division over ownership. The planet has one people and its the human race.. Otherwise humanity won't survive to be able to claim land ownership in the future.

your doing an art that is using modern tools. if your gonna make them do them like your ancestors. your using the white mans tools to make you 'art" as an apache/german I find it so odd to live in the past yet also using tools of the modern science and you deny science is best too you can use to find out what is real.. have a good day.. peace on earth.. all people and cultures
