The fact that the younger generation have never heard about these brave men is part of the reason why they are clueless about what it took for them to live in a country as great as America

Mike was the only one who was able to leave the helicopter to pull marines to safety, because the gunners had to stay on the bird to fire on the enemy positions. Colonel Ledbetter was piloting that day and was also firing on the enemy from his seat. The minefield had been planted by the marines, but a fence delineating had been moved by the Little People, to look like the mines were in a different location. The last marine he rescued had both legs blown off. Mike was a soft spoken and kind person who helped everyone

The opinion of an Army Vet; The Marines are notorious for not recognizing heroism when they actually witness it although a lot of their officers seem to pull it off oftentimes repeatedly. That being said; whoever the pilot was that wanted to reprimand this Marine for his heroism, well I hope he was rotated to some arm- pit up in the Alaskan Aleutians to finish out his service. The fact that on a second VN tour he was still a PFC receiving the MOH was totally pathetic, although without a doubt, stripes were the last thing this hero cared about. Not even the Army does this sort of shit.

Thank you for your observation. I’m looking at some of these officers that are congressional metal honor winners. Some of them have MOH Navy Cross, Silver star, 2 bronze stars. In the meantime, a PFC that went through the same bullshit that this congressional metal honor went through comes home with campaign ribbons presidential citation may be a Good conduct medal. Just saying.

I don't believe so. Here is what his obit says. It makes no mention of any children, however his brother Carl was a Gunnery Sgt... Preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Raymond M. Clausen, Sr., and brother, Jerry Clausen, Mike is survived by his wife of nearly 28 years, Lois, of Ponchatoula, Louisiana; brothers: GySgt Carl Clausen, USMC (Ret) of Hammond, Louisiana; former Marine Erdwin Clausen of Manila, Philippine Islands; sister, Christine Clausen Ballard of Albany, Louisiana; and 11 year-old beloved niece, Lois Lavita Evans O'Sullivan of Ponchatoula, Louisiana.
