Evonne was known for losing her focus in a match. A walk about as it were.

Evonne should have won this match in straight sets! Leading 4-1 in the first set and loses it, and won the second set. Evonne had the worst luck (?) at the open, the next year she led King 3-0 in the third set and ended up losing that final and then in 1975 won the first set against Evert and once again, ended up losing in 3 sets..

Evonne was often a bit suspect in longer matches because her ability to keep her concentration was always questionable. She was notorious for going "walkabout", sometimes at the worst possible moment.

I wonder if her losses at this time were because she was starting to fall out with Mr Edwards, her long time coach. He turned into a creep.

Court won so many Australian open titles because all other players went on vacation each year. The wins shouldn't count. But they do??

More fool those who went on vacation each year (if it's even true)?

@@fritzfrostick6910 It is true. Lots of players didn't bother to go there for the Australian Open at that time

The tournament was at the end of November/beginning of December. It was at the old Kooyong site with a sloped court and very low prize money. It wasn't until the mid 80's that the top players returned. Players skipped majors all the time until then; they didn't mean as much because pros hadn't been allowed in for decades and the 70's was chaotic as the players sought power. Connors was first banned from the French then skipped it for years in resentment. Most of the top players boycotted Wimbledon in 1973. It wasn't until Sampras passed Emerson that anyone noticed. Emerson had won his without the pros present.
