One of several tough matches Lendl had that US Open, which left him exhausted by the time he got to the semi finals. He beat Krajicek in 5 sets in the first round, coming from two sets down. It took him 4 sets to beat Woodbridge in round 3 and 4 sets again to beat Ivanisevic in round 4

Would have loved to watch the whole match. One of the best matches in Lendl’s career.

Michael Stich was unlucky when he lost to Lendl in 5 sets at the 1991 U.S. Open because he was outplaying Lendl when the match started at night, but because it started to rain, the match had to be resumed the next day and Lendl played better than he did the night before. That is reminiscent of John McEnroe's bad luck at the 1988 French Open when he was outplaying Lendl when that match started on a cloudy day and Lendl was having to hit a lot of second serves which McEnroe attacked by coming into the net. Darkness suspended that match until the next day and when that match resumed the next day in sunshine, Lendl was absolutely sharp and outplayed McEnroe to win that match!

Has to rank as maybe Lendl's last great win. Or 1992 US Open 4th Round over Becker. But Stich had won Wimbledon that Summer and Becker was garbage for most of 1992 except after the U.S. Open.

what about Lendl vs Sampras in Philadelphia?

@@thebigmonstaandy6644 yeah, that one was uploaded (ESPN coverage) and taken down from youtube. Great match, nevertheless, five sets, Lendl coming out on top after a good fight.

yay nay yes but that was early 91, the week after the Australian Open. The win over Becker in the 92 US was nearly 2 years later

@@thebigmonstaandy6644 Agree. Saw that match, Lendl was sharper than ever.

I imagine the 1992 win over Becker was particularly sweet for Lendl, as it was the only time he beat Becker in a grand slam.
