US President and his last "Hail to the Chief" in office | From Truman (1953) to Trump (2021)

I've done something similar with this video before but it was his first "Hail to the Chief" after the oath of office. many have suggested making the latter as well. and before that I made the last one at the funeral, and this is his last "Hail to the Chief" as President of the United States, from President Harry Truman attending Dwight Eisenhower's inauguration in 1953 to Donald Trump in 2021 after taking office in the 2017-2021 period. In this video for the period 1953-2021 only President Richard Nixon is not available, because he resigned before his term expired, and of course there is a substitute for a little comedy (don't be surprised) because it is just a joke ...

What's fascinating about Carter's last Hail to the Chief was that he was working through the night before Reagan's inauguration to help secure the release of the American hostages in Iran!! The Iranians decided to stick it to Carter by not releasing the hostages until Reagan became president. Knowing that it was the Carter administration that helped secure the release of the hostages, Reagan in one of his first acts as president had Carter fly out to West Germany to greet the hostages as they board a plane back to the U.S.

Sadly the Vice President rarely ascends to the Presidency except after the death/resignation of the former President. Bush Sr. was the only one in recent times to be elected directly after the President he served with. A few non-political observations, first, it is stark to see how much different Joe Biden looked even during Trump’s inauguration let alone in 2009 versus how he looks today. Second, Jimmy Carter was pretty much on the phone up until he had to walk out, trying to ensure the release of the hostages from Iran, he probably had no sleep that night. Last, but not least, I think that, regardless of your political views, you can agree that it is a historic break from precedence that Trump did not attend the inauguration of his successor. Let’s hope that videos like this can continue to be made in the future, and that every future president will have their “last“ hail to the chief.

Dick Cheney was in a wheelchair. He was vacating the VP residence for Joe Biden before the inauguration and after he threw his back out from moving boxes, his doctor recommended wheelchair use for a couple of days. So instead of going down the stairs like Bush did, he was wheeled into the back row with a secret service agent body-guarding him. If you look at videos where Obama and Biden say goodbye to Bush and Cheney, you see him fully in the chair.
