For those of you who think the US presidential election should be simply a direct votes from the citizens, then you're not thinking things through. The truth is, most average citizens don't even know (or care) about what they even want. They just follow based on what the media says without even knowing anything. There has been so many videos where people were asked about which candidate they support (which obviously they answer in clear way -- A or B), but they can't answer anything regarding their candidate's agendas which they represent (the interviewer asks in ways like, "How do you feel about Person A's agendas regarding Agenda A?" Or "Do you know Person A's agenda in Agenda A? If so, what is it?"). Sadly, people are too dumb. That's why there are electors, who actually know what they're talking about, and what it actually means. I say that's a better system than having the average citizen vote for the president. I'm aware that there are flaws in that system too (such as being vulnerable to bribery or corruption), but it's still better than having an average citizens vote directly.

@kelseymcguire41654 жыл бұрын
I mean, maybe for the candidate elections where a delegate can change who they vote for if a majority is not found ... but electors exist solely to determine how much power any state holds they don't actually impose any checks or balances, they're just a rubber stamp and its still the result of citizen direct votes... Also how and when are electors reassigned? If they're not moved around every election to match population then you're going end up with inequality in the power of a voter.

Here’s why this system sucks: 1) Delegates run on an honor system and can legally (in some states) choose someone that wasn’t who the people chose 2) In the event of a tie or a candidate dropping out, delegates can again pick who they want, this time completely unhindered by the people’s vote. This gets even messier when there’s multiple parties, which the US really should have. 3) Lmao winner take all. Seriously why. 4) If you’re a significantly minority party in a state (aka historically red or blue states), your vote is nonexistent. Literally there’s no point in you voting because your vote has no power. 4.2) This means swing states and winner take all states have way more weight than other voters. A system where a vote isn’t equal to other votes is simply broken. Basically, every step from the primaries to the actual election serve to give candidates many chances to not win the popular vote and still get to hold office. People don’t actually choose their leaders. Stupid system.

Can anyone help me in clearing my doubt. I wanted to know if the electors can vote for any party's candidate or if they have to choose only that party's candidate which got all votes in that particular state, I am confused, also if it's actually the electors decision and they are not obliged to vote a particular party's candidate legally, then what's the point of campaigns ? Pls help

There is nothing here about contested elections without concession. Try again!

"technically they`re electing delegates'' or "actually they`re electing electors" What the hell does that mean??!!! What the hell do the voters put at the voting card? What does ''actually'' means here?

This system called "winner take all" is actually a nonsense coz if in the State of California having a total of 52 congressional districts, even if 27 are won by Dems and 25 are won by Reps, whole of the 52 will go to Dems since Dems got more than half of 52. Which essentially means that 25 representatives of the public and the public who voted for these 25 electors have no say in the way their district be represented. In Bharat, we have 543 seats in the Lower House called The Lok Sabha where any party or alliance of parties gets more than half i.e. more than 272 seats, forms the government albeit the opposition member of the parliament do represent the people who voted for them.
