It is a new "tax" . The liberals just called it a "carbon tax" so dumb Canadians would think it would actually do something like reduce Canada's GHG emissions. The reality is in 2015 Canada contributed about 1.5 % of world GHG emissions, now about 2%. The carbon tax was never about reducing emissions it was all about getting more of Canadian consumers money. Yes they give you a rebate, the amount depending on the province you live in .The way the carbon tax works is the federal government keeps the first 10% of all carbon taxes collected. Then the carbon tax has the effect of raising prices on everything. So that creates inflation. Companies will pass along the tax to consumers so they pay more .As nearly everything is taxed in Canada the various governments collect more tax. That money Trudeau will not rebate one red cent to you. If it quacks like a duck .....

Actually the Trudeau liberals have been supportive of certain pipeline projects. They bought the Trans Mountain pipeline from Kinder Morgan and have enabled the building of the Trans Mountain expansion pipeline under construction now. They have also supported the the LNG project in Kitimat and the Coastal Linc natural gas pipeline. They are supporting the Enbridge tunnel project for line 5 to Michigan. Line 3 renewal project is now completed and shipping larger quantities of oil to the US. The issues with the liberal government is the lack of support for Western fossil fuels to get to the East coast of Canada. It does seem that recent oil and natural gas discoveries in Nfld. and Lab. will be a good fit for shipments to Europe. One of the major hurdles would be the cost of a pipeline from Western Canada to Saint John New Brunswick. The Trudeau liberals have adopted a policy that any new pipelines must take downstream emissions into consideration .Frankly no oil producing country in the world considers downstream emissions. The situation in Europe warrants Canada to speed up oil and LNG infrastructure to Europe. The development of infrastructure would also need a long term commitment from Europe of 20-30 years.

Shipping oil by rail was always regarded as a temporary measure until a pipeline could be built by Canadian oil companies. Keystone XL was already under construction when President Biden cancelled the trans border approval that President Trump had signed off on. A lot of Americans and Canadians lost their jobs due to Presidents Biden's decision. A lot of smaller towns on the pipeline route had made infrastructure improvements due to the pipeline and are hurting now.A lot of people and families were hurt by the decision to cancel that pipeline. Frankly we need rail lines for moving other things like crops,minerals ,consumer goods.The best and safest way to move oil is by a dedicated pipeline.

The Benefit outweighs the risks on pipelines: Risk: Pollution/ leaking, Building costs, ugly Benefit: Highly sophisticated censors can find leaks in seconds, easy to repair, controlled environment, constant supply of oil (high volume), More environmentally friendly in long run as trains and transport are highly inefficient (burn fuel), Train spills/ crashes are much more devastating to environment. More money and jobs for the economy, Can be repurposed in the future to transport other materials, hydrogen, carbon ect (gas pipelines).
@DavidMcCalister2 жыл бұрын
@@pv8249 All good points, you've won me over. Hydrogen will be fairly huge when we have surplus wind/solar instead of just throwing away the additional energy at peak production moments. Whats really interesting is that when we get the hydrogen as surplus energy from solar in the midday it makes steel an incredibly green building material. Essentially no carbon in production or recycling and its almost 100% recyclable so to have the pipelines eventually be for hydrogen theres some real potential to do green in a great and affordable way.
@pv82492 жыл бұрын
@@DavidMcCalister Exactly! I see Hydrogen and solar being the big winners in "green" energy. Wind/Wave to follow. We cannot just end our reliance of petrol overnight, The reason why Hydrogen/Solar may win out is because of your points above coupled with the fact that we need "fast energy" aka hydrogen fuel cells. Not everyone lives in a city and can charge their cars all day. People who live in rural communities need an equivalent of petrol where they can fill their tank and go, pack a spare fuel tank (In the bush) or drive 100's km/ day. (truckers, transportation) Rechargeable solar assist on vehicles may help but hydrogen electric fuel cell is fast filling and has a range of 50% greater than electric battery. Only problem is storage and stations (we have hardly any). If we could also repurpose gas pipelines in the future it would make cross border/ country hydrogen transportation and stations very effective.
