That'd be my thought. Behavior was not normal, so likely using this as cover to return and report, and political manipulation. Likely be jailed or reported as dead, as he either lives out his life there as a friend of the state, or gets a new identity and goes elsewhere.

LoL. Spies aren't going to enter a blocked off communist country via a tourist group in that way. Because they keep a head count, for starters. Second, he didn't sneak off. He RAN from the group, as in they saw him run off, and called after him to come back. He ran like he was on a mission, but calling attention to himself. Y'all watch way too many action movies, and it stymies your critical thinking skills.

They encourage defectors to north Korea with loud speakers at the DMZ but every American that has defected ended up in prison in DPRK for a period of time,were tortured for years and then forced to prove their loyalty.They were kept in isolation from the rest of the population then kidnapped women from other countries force them to get married and have children to give up to the govt to be raised as DPRK spies.
