The Chinese Navy attempted to block a Philippine ship in the South China Sea causing a near collision. Chinese ships often attempt to collide with Philippine ships, which often forces the Philippine navy to retreat. The Philippines says it’ll continue to expose China’s aggression and imperialism. In response to this the US reaffirmed that an armed attack in the Pacific, which includes the South China Sea, on Philippine armed forces, public vessels, or aircraft would invoke US mutual defense commitments.

I think if Japan breaks their agreement against having a conventional military and using it for none defensive purposes but other countries protect them, you have more to worry about than an island nation. Also you’re talking about how they can turn against us, but you forget Japans entire economy relies on funding from the US and other countries every year. Plus China, North Korea and South Korea both wish Japan was under water, and that’s a lot of neighboring countries that you’d probably prefer to not fight if you’re from Japan. Japan helped the allies repel Russian expansion to the region helping protect allied interests, Japan requested a few of the territories. I was a Signalman, took in a flashing light Msg fm a ShoreBattery threatening to blow us out of the water. My Captain said - "Tell them to get Fucked in Morse Code". I Did. We called their Bluff. Proud of that Naval Destroyer Captain. 🇺🇸
