I believe it's a trick, because on adverts they can say "it's only X amount sugar" but in fine text that's per serving. On the back they also have a separate section for recommended daily intakes, presumably to trick the consumer into believing they are eating far less sugar.

Cereal isn't a generalised word for the crunchy bits of sugar you pour milk onto, its a blanket word covering all products made from grains. Hearing someone say a cereal isn't "cereal" because it's not brightly coloured and packed full of preservatives and weird colours, shaped into kibble, it's enough to make you space out and go cross-eyed.

Lucky Charms were officially on sale in the UK in the early 1990s and they lasted for a couple of years before being withdrawn. I don’t believe an official line was given, but certainly I think the sugar level was a factor in its demise. You can still buy them here but they’re all imported from the US and they usually charge about £7 a box. (Or nearly $10 per box based on current exchanges rates.)

Kellogg’s Crunchy Nut is one of my favourite cereals! When I was in secondary school we had two boys stay with us from the US for an exchange student programme. The look on their faces when they tried it for the first time was hilarious! Every morning that week they stayed with us they would eat an enormous bowl for breakfast and then another as a ‘snack’ before dinner! When they left to go home they both took 3 boxes each with them in their suitcases 😂😂😂

I went to the Kelloggs factory in Manchester and saw Cornflakes, Frosties and Honey Nut Cornflakes (same as Honey Nut Frosted Flakes, so that's not a US exclusive) being made. I was surprised by how simple a process is actually was. The malt flavouring, vitamins and sugar solutions are just a fine mist applied to the squished corn. It all starts on a common production line.

Serving sizes are scams to keep the nutritional information (sugar, fat etc) lower. I find it weird that this comparison acknowledges the arbitrarily different serving sizes, but then talks about the number of servings as a pro/con. The only number that counts is the weight of the entire product (in relation to the price).

I'm glad Irene 'fessed up to adding more sugar to her cereals - it is unthinkable to me to eat plain cereal (weetabix, cornflakes, shredded wheat) without a healthy sprinkling of sugar on top (my British colleagues think I'm weird because of this). On the other hand, I definitely wouldn't add extra sugar to Frosties or honey Cheerios - that would just be like eating a bowl of sugar.

The Acidic smell Harry noticed in Fruit Loops is Citric Acid. It's also in Apple Jacks. Food Theory has an episode about it. It's on if you can taste the difference between different Fruit Loops colors as a well as if you can tell the difference between Apple Jacks and Fruit Loops. The answer will surprise you if you haven't seen that episode but grew up eating the cereals.

We don't have Honey Nut Cheerios in the States, either. They've been Honey Nut FLAVOR Cheerios since sometime in 2006, when the actual almond pieces were removed. I haven't bought a box after that; they ruined a nearly perfect cereal that was the same since 1979.

i thought the 30g guideline was for kids and the recomended serving for an adult was 45g you didnt add the grab and go(just add milk) bowls to the list of sizes, there pretty popular we can still get to froot loops in the Uk up till a little while ago they were avaliable from asda (as it was part of Wal-mart), you can also pick them up from international outlets (like places that sell EU chocolate and american sweets, which are very popular) we have one where i am an the town isnt exactly what youd call large. weetabix is bland in the same way that corn flakes, wheat flakes or the plain special K is, can add Porridge to that too if you like

Frosted flakes are named that way because of how they came about. Kellogs took their Corn Flakes and frosted them with sugar, naming them Sugar Frosted Flakes. In the early 80s Kelloggs dropped the word Sugar from many of their cereals' names. The word Cereal just means a grain that you eat such as oats, wheat or corn. I think that is how Weetabix can call itself cereal although it's not what Americans think of as a traditional breakfast cereal.

On one hand I would like to try some of them on the other hand I don't have to buy them or worry to have some health issues, and knowing myself I know that I would eat a lot of them. I don't know. And I have to say, I miss those little packages, I bought them and bring with me at school few times but it was magical, because every day I always thought what type of cereals I want to eat as snacks at school. But they don't sell it here anymore in the superstores, and if they sell it you need to go to some specific shop.

Have I completely lost my mind? I could've sworn Frosted Flakes came in the tiny boxes, the cups that you eat directly out of, the small size, the family size, the giant size, and the mega sizes. Did they discontinue some of them? 🤔

Just to say in the uk you can get lucky charms from the usual shop however I have never see. Cap’n crunch but have seen the odd few froot loops. They also have in 1 shop the froot loop and lucky charm combo so basically the froot loops with marshmallows in them. In UK we also have like a knock of brand of lucky charms where the cereal bit is a bit puffier and the marshmallows are a bit bigger but it’s good :)

Food Insider Australian edition would be good to see. As a lot of our cereals are marketed as a cereal for athletes, Nutri-Grain, Milo Cereal, Weetbix (Although similar to Weetabix it's different).

Sure is different, I quickly learned that in Australia! I like it more though, holds the crunch better.

Actually some supermarkets/grocery stores now do stock lucky charms in the foreign foods section. Also some whole sellers, bargain stores (like B&M) & candy stores also stock lucky charms.
