Standard menu prices for Domino's in the UK are ridiculous. But they basically always have some sort of deal on, so most of the time you probably pay half. Obviously this is to get you to spend more to heat deal requirements, and spend more on sides which probably have a higher mark up. Also a point about the dough ingredients, you can basically add corn meal to the UK one as they work it through the dough as they stretch it out. Italian crust is literally made exactly the same as a classic crust, except they place it on top of an upside down stuffed crust pan, which basically makes the edge droop slightly and therefore not rise. I don't know if they are back yet, but when I worked at Domino's they had Cinni Dippers, which is basically a small pizza dough they sprinkle cinnamon and sugar over, before cutting into fingers, and it comes with an icing pot. They also did the Lotta-chocca Pizza, which is a small pizza dough they put a disc of chocolate on top of.

The food laws of the USA are different from that in the United Kingdom. In the USA you have to say *everything* which is in the food, where as in the United Kingdom you don’t have to say literally *everything*. For example the cheese that’s in the pizza isn’t just cheese, there’ll be milk and what not in it. In the USA you have to say everything in the cheese but in the United Kingdom you can just pass it off as ‘cheese’. So obviously the ingredients of the UK have much more stuff inside it.

Something to note "I can't believe it's not butter" isn't because it's not dairy based, but because they figured out how to make spreadable butter from olive oil using emulsifiers. It's marketed as a health food since the emulsifiers originally was intended to get folks who used a crap ton of butter to cut down. Not all additives are bad, but the FDA does a really shi te job of actually making food safe.

Genuine question here. In the US, we clearly see half of the periodic table in the ingredients for the pizzas, but is it because the US has put in laws that state that big fast food companies, or any food company at that, has to put the list of every possible ingredient in the list as a food and safety measure because of prior problems within the food industry and the UK just DOESN'T have to do that? or is it genuinely because the UK uses much more natural and organic ingredients compared to the US's lab created ingredients? Thx
@MMarlow263 жыл бұрын
The second one. UK is more natural but it’s not any better or anything as literally all those chemicals in the US pizza are good for you. They’re essentially all just vitamins. US pizza is also designed to not fill you up or to give you the energy to have multiple whereas the UK pizza is just the UK pizza, there isn’t any clever tricks involved.

I live in a country where most of those fast food chains don't even exist and the ones that do food portions are much smaller, so people eat less fast food cause it's easier to buy fresh produce and cook at home. Don't get me wrong I love a good pizza or hamburger, but I don't eat it everyday because it's not ingrained in my head with 24/7 commercials that I should go buy that big Mac. If anyone's wondering why the USA menu has all this parmesan stuff, while the UK doesn't, it's because "Parmesan" is a protected term within the EU+UK. To be called "Parmesan" the cheese must be made in a specific way, in a specific part of Italy. This means the minimum level of quality is higher... but so is the price. A large scale pizza chain like Dominoes would never be able to afford to use that much parmesan. There are substitutes, but "Italian Hard Cheese" doesn't have quite the same ring to it.

Little known piece of publicly available info is that for the Italian size pizza in uk dominos they actually just use a the dough from a size down and slap it onto a larger plate so that it stretches thinner. I remember when I was at dominos and fairly new to the slapping process it was actually surprisingly difficult to get the hang of doing the thinner crust pizzas decently without tearing parts of it Also the Tuna on Pizza is actually surprisingly decent, it’s like a tuna cheese melt with tomato. Also found that if you get it without the tomato sauce it’s pretty good with sweet corn and red onion.

Dominos can be cheap and expensive. The single toppings small pizza is 60 cents to $1 something. The other mediums and larges are $3 to $5. So don't say as if 60 cents buys you an entire pizza. The sides like garlic bread, pasta and cakes are like $1 and up.
@pinkheart3154 жыл бұрын

Just a heads up, the extra large that he had was cut into six slices because it was a BrookeLyn style pizza. It’s kind of a thinner crust so you can fold it up. If he wanted more slices, he could have gotten it hand-tossed, which is typically cut into eight. (I work at domino’s, I know these things)

I like seeing the differences in toppings that vary according to local tastes. In Germany, for example, Domino's offers to replace the marinara with either barbecue or hollandaise sauce since the latter is extremely popular there. Germans also *love* asparagus so when spring comes around, when it's peak asparagus season, Domino's also offers it as a topping.

You also have to account for wages in each region. Here in the U.S., many states employ the split wage formula, also known as server wages(though drivers don't get paid as little as servers do). In Europe, I believe it's regular wages no matter what(correct me if I'm wrong please). So, by that account it would directly affect the cost of menu items.

Yeah, I don’t get it. You would think fast food pizza would be cheaper. I live in Germany and the cheapest pizza at my nearest fast food place is 5,50€ for a 20cm Margherita. Meanwhile if I just go to my local Italian restaurant they sell a 30cm Margherita for 4,50€. Also the pizza from the fast food place tastes like shit.

There are fast food chains where I live (Spain), but luckily there are also nice places that make homemade pizza.
