@livewire we don't get as much coverage in food challenges compared to the states. They tend to group Canada and the States together in food things. Canada and the USA have different food laws, meaning certain things can not be added to foods all that

From a Canadian stand-point: Timmies (the unofficial/official nickname) is culturally cherished and has become a legacy brand (like Swiss Chalet or Canadian Tire) that benefits substantially from nostalgia aka when it was legit good. The main combo of donuts and coffee is a long-standing staple but now mainly pivots towards coffee (which has been said to contain a notable amount of sodium that "punches" the flavor to a point where people can't function without it). The manufacturing process of the donuts changed when the company switched to flash freezing - a process where the products are mostly prepared at a factory and then shipped frozen to be "completed" at any of their several locations. This was such a big deal in Canada that major magazine Macleans had a front-cover story in 2010 about the change and ever since then, their donuts remain a pale imitation of what once was. It's especially unfortunate because this chain is EVERYWHERE in Canada, even in hospitals, but offers such poor quality options.
@Nblades78
@Nblades78 Жыл бұрын
I was here to say the same thing about the switch to mass-produced, partially-cooked, and flash-frozen product made in central food factories in the 2010s after Tims was bought out by multinational investment corporation 3G Capital under the Restaurant Brands Int'l banner. Franchisees were forced to take out their bakery equipment and install cold storage units to hold this mass-produced frozen product.

There are actually 629 Tim hortons in the US but only 65 in the UK which based off the size of the UK compared to the USA is which in the UK is 1 for every 1,500 miles or 3,730 kilometers VS 1 every 6,035 miles or 15,635 kilometers so there are actually more Tim hortons per distance in the UK than the US but neither one compares to the 1 Tim hortons per 895 miles or 2,320 kilometers in Canada keeping in mind that being an average since I think that a good portion of Canada does not have a Tim’s… I was bored so I had to do something and I’m so bored math is better than nothing

As a Canadian, I want to make it clear that Timmies isn't the best coffee and donuts in Canada. We love it because it's uniquely Canadian (Tim Horton was a famous hockey player), it's everywhere, and for its price point. It was wonderful back in the day (prior to the 2000's) but now it's just there to get a quick and cheap caffeine fix before working a double shift. My friends and I always joke that we'd never willingly get Timmies unless we were desperate lol.

The second time over in my home team’s sworn enemy, I tried one of their burgers and Waffle Fries. The Waffle fries were mashed up and the burger meat was tasteless. (The toppings that were on the burger had to distract from the tastelessness of the meat) And the Hot Dog my Dad tried was rubbery and too hard to pull off.
