There are several useful features that HOI2 and HOI3 had that are no longer available in HOI4. Alerts (with an option to pause the game) when units arrived at a destination, started/ended a battle (which was huge for naval engagements with capital ships), and, of course, trade automation.

That's really sad, the clicking on the trade tab (especially with free trade) gets quite crazy! I hope they will reintroduce those features at some point...

@@MachiavellianStrategist I hear you. I was adjusting trade almost every day during my latest Brazil run. The other very annoying thing is how often I'd have to manage the units I got from allies. I wouldn't hold my breath on it being reintroduced though. The community has been asking for it since before HOI4 was even released as the changes were unveiled in the devlogs. I didn't play HOI4 until about a year ago because it became so different from HOI3 and, in my mind, much less a traditional strategic war game, in comparison to HOI3. The deal breaker for me was the complete, at least initially, abandonment of NATO tiles and being forced to use the sprites instead.

My main question after watching this and reading the description is did you ever end up upgrading your naval transport technology to increase your naval invasion capacity? Because you used alot of marines in the naval invasion but I thought you'd only be able to use 10 divisions total with the starting naval transport tech the USA starts with.

It is thanks to the marines special doctrines, they massively increase your naval invasion capacity once you unlock all of them!

"All of Denmark" Dude you're just looking at the Juteland peninsula, that is only the continental part of Denmark, the rest of Denmark is the Islands, which the Danish puppet still has.

Yep, but they used not to take it at all, just peacefully puppet them. I think this changed in one of the latest updated.

BTW, why don't you ever use the newish feature to buy/sell armaments? I often use it to sell foreign equipment, especially outdate/captured planes.

It's a good idea to use it in the way you are doing it, but it adds another layer of complexity which I try to avoid in my guides. It is not usually super impactful, but it can be a nice boost. Also, since I usually play fascist, people tend to hate and embargo me fairly quickly haha

@@Jo-Heike I LOVE the justification time reduction (-80% when fighting a major) this makes fascism the superior ideology for pure aggressive expansion, which kind of makes sense!

Random question that is not related to the guide Would it be better to use blitzkrieg doctrine rather than superior fire power doctrine for major nations? Especially since nations like the US and USSR can have a heavy military based economy that can definitely produce a lot of quality medium (and modern after 1944-45) tanks way earlier, I feel like it would make more sense to have the blitzkrieg doctrine for those nations

Hi! You mean mobile warfare right? Personally I like it a lot and I usually pick it with Germany (since they start with it and have some great discounts). However, superior firepower is arguably more well rounded and balanced. Superior firepower heavily buffs support companies and the raw stats of our difivisions, which is alwyas useful, both for your tanks and for your infantry divisions. Mobile warfare buffs armored divisions the most, but it tends to do it mostly in terms of speed, organization and breakthrough. The extra organization is nice to have, but speed and breakthrough is something we already have on our tanks, having more does not make a big enough difference usually. Finally, the US starts with superior firepower and has a - 15 cost advisor for it, so switching to mobile warfare would delay many of the doctrines. Also, superior firepower is very good for our marines. That being said, mobile warfare would probably work very well too!

I usually just prefer Mobile Warfare if I am going to main tanks, but overall tanks already have good stats and you just need to bump up the engine and armor by a few points for your desired stats if you are going superior firepower.

I think doing Neutrality act so early and not doing Selective Service acct immediately after is suboptimal due to the misallocation of early war support.

Democratic USA is incredibly strong, although all those research slots are actually a bit of an overkill, we end up using them to research stuff a lot ahead of time and with huge penalties.

How do you select all the infantry divisions? This is why these things are so fing confusing. Every "tutorial" I've seen for HOI4 they are using shortcuts and don't explain how to use them. Is there a complete noob tutorial out there somewhere?

Double clicking on a unit type will select all of those units in an army. My unedited videos are pretty close to a beginner's guide, since you get the full footage! But feel free to ask any questions!

You puppeted Germany in a few of their occupied states, namely Juteland and Czechia, which means they don't have cores. Isn't that bad?

Not particularly for our democratic USA strategy, it will be more important for the upcoming fascist guide. I mean they get less stuff from non-core regions, so technically it would be better to always puppet the countries which have the original core, but I prefer having fewer puppets as they are easier to manage.

You have to do your first medium lobbying effort before you even take your first focus

I find medium lobbying effort to be hardly worth it compared to small lobbying efforts. Could you explain why getting a medium lobbying effort that early would be beneficial?

@@MachiavellianStrategist New Deal gives 150pp. By the first 70 days you have 154pp. Your PP gain cannot go below 0, so if you do a lobbying effort during the focus, you only lose that 4 extra pp in exchange for having a bunch of extra support before the election, which allows you enough support to do all your acts fairly quickly.

Small lobbying effort costs: .3pp x 30d = 9PP over the course of a month for 5+25 support Medium Lobbying Effort Costs - .75pp x 45 = 34PP over the course of a month and a half for 10+50 support As you can see, medium is supposed to cost 35PP, but you can get it for only 4 PP if you do it before New Deal.

You see SSA just sets war support to 10%, regardless of what it was before, so you want to lose the war support from Neutrality Act so that it is completely negated by the SSA.

It hurts my eyes to see the empty fuel at the beginning, if you like to avoid and get even more navy and air xp just build the first infastructure in texas and you wiill never have issues with fuel anymore.

Oh it's alright, we don't really need more xp nor fuel for the entire early part of the run, we need the extra military factories a lot more! You could just train until regular and then stop and restart later on when you have fuel, I just leave them on constant training to keep things as simple as possible! Building the first infrastructure in Texas is also a totally fine option by the way, but you might be a little behind on military production if you do.

@@MachiavellianStrategist Excuse my overdoing. I feel sometimes pissed if people transfer current politics in history. Of course the US do aggressive foreign policy since they are a super power. It was not like that in the Roosevelt-era. Corresponding to the New Deals as economic concept, the Roosevelt govt. pursued the foreign policy of "good neighbourhood" and took home troops abroad. Just as a historical hint ;-)

My dude, I love your guides but I need to chime in here. 13:20 you have a -50% construction speed debuff on mils man, there is *NO WAY* paying 25pp for a few extra civs constructing at -50% AND THEN having to keep taking the small lobbying effort at -.3 a day just to make up for the reps lost by the first part can possibly be worth it.

Hi! Thank you for the feedback (and suggestion)! In my opinion it is worth sacrificing PP for additional military factories, despite the low construction efficiency. We don't really need extra research speed, since the US already has access to a stupid number of research slots. That being said, what you suggested makes sense, and it won't change the overall strategy, so you are totally free to make the change and see how it goes. If you test it, I would really appreciate if you could let me know the results (whether you go for the extra research speed or for something else).

21:16 okay so finally got to the same date as you. I have 228 factories to your 236 (basically the same) BUT I have literally 50+ 100% infrastructure open building spots so I will very very quickly speed past that number. I’d be interested in swapping save files - I’m building for a historical war start of late 1941 so have not went nuts on training troops etc, but i think I’ll be completely unstoppable by that point.

Also I’m sure we’re building somewhat different things but you’re sending away 18 factories for resources, I’m sending 3. going heavy on infra first means you don’t need to trade away nearly as many factories for resources, helping the snowball as well!

@@JDothan definitely agree! The timing in which you plan to join the war makes a huge difference! My setup is meant for an early war. Generally speaking, if you plan to join later it is much better to have more infrastructures and civilian factories. And of course you won't need as many divisions as early.

@@MachiavellianStrategist I'm occupying Mexico, I'm swapping destroyers for bases, Iceland is joining me, I'm only building military factories in Mexico and the Philippines, I'm turning them into integrated puppets, when all the research is done, 650 factories become 750 with trade, and with the Japanese occupation, it reaches 900. It is possible to see 1000 factories completely legally and democratically, with the European occupation, it will be more. can be exaggerated
